"We've located a distress call coming from Kennewick System. It's coming from Luyten and since it's such a densely populated planet, we want you to go take a look." Dr. Halsey said. She was practically shouting over all of the noises that were outside the building on the landing pad. "Just me?" John asked. "You and the other Spartans." She said. John just grunted as a response.
Despite the other Spartans moving towards the Pelican, Chief had a moment of hesitation. Something was telling him not to leave without saying something to Zora. "Chief?" Kai called out. John heavily thunked back over to where Dr. Halsey was standing. "I need you to do something for me." He said. "Does it pertain to the mission at hand?" She asked. Chief went silent. "If not, then it can wait."
Adun was looming at Dr. Halsey's shoulder like usual. Both of them watched Chief walk away. She turned to him. "Go get the woman. We'll run a full diagnostic on her, blood samples, skin samples, everything. I want to know more about our guest." She said. "Yes, Dr. Halsey." he said, moving away from her and heading back into the building.
An uneasy feeling was settling in Chief's stomach as the doors to the Pelican were closed and the ship began to rise up from the pad. "Is something wrong, Master Chief?" The A.I. asked. He remained silent. "Your vitals are all over the place." It informed him. He shouldn't have been feeling any of these things. Something was going to happen to Zora...he just knew it.
I awoke to people shouting and the sounds of people running down the hall. I immediately jumped up from the bed, moving towards the door to see what was going on. Just then, the door came open and a man was standing on the opposing side. "Come with me please." He ordered. I grabbed the jacket that was on the bed and tugged it around my shoulders as I followed him out. "What's going on?" I asked. "Mobilization of the troops. That's not your concern." He said. "Did Chief go with them?" I asked.
He turned on his heel - deadpanning me. "You seem to have a fondness for Master Chief." Embarrassment flushed my cheeks. "No, I dont." I bit back. He just smirked and turned away. He led me down a series of hallways before we stopped at a large frosted glass automatic sliding door. "What the hell is going on?" I asked, stepping inside the expansive room. Soft blue and white lighting accompanied the ceiling. This wasn't the same place I'd been when I'd arrived. This was different.
There was a woman standing in the middle of the room. The same woman who had visited me in my room the afternoon before. She was leaning against a table, which was more like a glorified projection screen. "Dr. Halsey?" The man said. She turned around to face me. A smile was plastered on her lips. It was difficult to tell was it a friendly smile or a threatening one.
"Don't be afraid. Come here." She said, motioning for me to come to her. I stepped into the brighter lighting from the shadows. "Come this way." She said, taking me by the hand and leading me over to a medical table. "Sit down." She said, motioning towards the table. I got on it as best as I could without hurting my existing leg injury. "Just lie down." She said. "What are you–going to do to me?" I asked. "Just some simple tests. We want to make sure you're alright." She said. I laid back on the table.
