"Welcome to the Final Selection."

The voice echoed across the clearing as the wind whispered through the trees. A group of anxious participants stood at the base of the mountain, their expressions a mix of fear and determination.

"The demons you will face have been caught and trapped on this mountain, held at bay by the wisteria trees."

I watched their eyes flicker toward the vibrant wisteria blossoms swaying gently in the breeze, a fleeting sense of safety blooming within them. Little did they know that this protection was temporary.

"From this point forward," the voice continued, "there is no more wisteria."

Tension thickened in the air as the weight of those words settled on the group. There was no more protection. From here on out, they were on their own.

"You will have to survive for seven days without the shelter of the wisteria. Good luck."

The participants swallowed hard, their gazes shifting to the mountain path ahead, shrouded in shadows.

"Only five survivors... what a shame," I murmured, my heart heavy as I watched the weary faces of those who had endured the trial.

Kanata stood beside me, her expression calm as ever. "Don’t worry, Ne-san," she said softly. "It was always a possibility."

Kiriya nodded in agreement, his voice steady. "We knew not everyone would make it."

Kanata and Kiriya exchanged a glance and then, as if one, they both spoke in unison. "Let’s go greet them."

I sighed, shaking off the sadness that lingered. "Alright. Let’s do this."

---

**Amaya's POV**

The four remaining participants stood before us, their faces marked with exhaustion and relief. One of them, a large, intimidating figure, was visibly impatient, his arms crossed over his chest. Another boy muttered nervously to himself, his eyes darting around, as if expecting danger at any moment.

"Welcome back," Kanata and Kiriya greeted them in perfect harmony.

"Congratulations on surviving," Kiriya added with a smile.

"We’re happy to see you well," Kanata chimed in, her voice calm and soothing.

One of the survivors, a boy with a scarred face, took a step forward, his eyes sharp with focus. "What happens now? Where are our swords?" he asked, his tone more of demand than a question.

"Patience," I said, raising an eyebrow at his tone. "We’ll get to that eventually."

For a moment, something about the boy seemed familiar, but I couldn’t place it. I brushed off the thought as Kiriya continued.

"We’ll first take your measurements for your uniforms," Kiriya explained, gesturing to the awaiting attendants.

"But first..." *clap clap*

As Kiriya clapped his hands, crows swooped down from the sky, landing gracefully on the shoulders of the survivors. Except for one boy, who blinked in confusion as a small sparrow fluttered down to perch on him instead.

"These are Kasugai crows," Kanata explained, her voice steady. "They are used for communication and will be your companions."

The boy with bright yellow hair stared at the sparrow in disbelief. "A crow?! This is a sparrow!" he exclaimed, holding up the small bird.

I raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "Be respectful. That sparrow went through the same training as the crows to get here."

Before the boy could respond, the large, angry survivor stomped forward, his face twisted with fury. "WHO CARES ABOUT CROWS?!" he bellowed, grabbing Kanata’s hair and yanking her toward him. "I WANT MY SWORD NOW!"

"HEY! Let go of her!" The scarred boy from earlier stepped forward, his hand instinctively moving to defend her.

I felt my calm exterior slip away, replaced by a dark, simmering anger. My aura shifted, the air around us growing heavy. "Child..." I said, my voice low and cold. "Release my sister, unless you want to become demon food."

The large boy turned to face me, his expression wild with rage. "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!"

That was it. Without a second thought, I stepped forward and grabbed his arm, twisting it with just enough force to make him release Kanata. He stumbled back, clutching his arm in shock and pain.

"I am Amaya Ubuyashiki, the Wisteria Hashira and eldest daughter of the master," I said, my voice calm but laced with warning. "I am a patient person, but when someone harms my family, they will wish they had never been born. Do you understand?"

The boy’s anger melted away, replaced by fear. "Y-Yes ma’am..."

"Good." I stepped back, returning to my calm demeanor. "Kiriya, continue."

---

As the survivors began selecting their ores for forging their swords, I knelt beside Kanata, checking on her to make sure she was alright. Her cut was small but deep enough to need attention. I had already cleaned and dressed it, but I stayed by her side to offer comfort.

"Is she okay?" a familiar voice asked.

I looked up to see the scarred boy from earlier standing before us. His concern was genuine, and I smiled softly.

"Yes, she’s fine. I’ve cleaned her cut, and she’s doing well now. Thank you for stepping in earlier."

He nodded, offering a small but warm smile. "You’re welcome! What’s your name?"

"Amaya Ubuyashiki," I replied, bowing slightly. "And yours?"

"Kamado Tanjiro," he said, bowing in return.

I gave him an appreciative nod. "Well, Kamado-kun, I look forward to seeing you again in the future."

His smile widened as he turned to leave. "Me too! I should be on my way now. Goodbye!"

"Goodbye..." I replied softly, watching as he disappeared into the distance.

As I turned back to Kanata, the name lingered in my mind.

‘Tanjiro… what a kind name.’
