Larissa's Pov
"What do you mean there's been a murder? Murders happen everyday."
"This is different."
"How?"
"Someone or something has killed one of the students here."
"How'd you find out?"
"I was eavesdropping on the principal and heard her talking about keeping it under wraps with the sheriff. I went into Jericho and did some more research. It was Rowan who was murdered."
"That's impossible. I saw him leaving the school last week. He got expelled."
"Did you really see Rowan leave the school? Or did you see somebody who looked like Rowan leave the school?"
"Are you claiming that the principal shapeshifted into Rowan and made it look like he left the school even though he was dead?"
"Exactly."
"That's a bold claim Xavier."
"I also have an idea on what killed him. In the files I found in Jericho there were also some gruesome pictures. One of them contained animal claw marks on Rowan's face." He turned around, grabbed a piece of paper, and showed it to us.
That was Rowan. Dead. The marks were still red but also long. They crawled down his neck. He placed the picture down and grabbed a book from a nearby shelf.
"This is a book of monsters. It contains all 'mythical' creatures that can do a lot of damage. One of which I suspect killed Rowan. We'll have to review that later since lunch has already started. We can meet back here at 9 pm after lights out. Look out for anything suspicious. It could be anyone in this school or anyone of us in this room."
We disrobed and dismissed immediately after he placed the book back down. I threw my bag over my shoulder as I ascended the staircase and began walking to the cafeteria. I walked into the cafeteria and grabbed a tray.
"Hey Larissa." Enid smiled at me as she finished putting French fries in the small container they handed us with each tray.
"What's up Enid? How are you and Ajax?"
"Good. We're going on our first date soon. How about you and Bianca? I know you guys can have your ups and downs." She gave me a reassuring smile.
"I'm not sure." I placed a cheeseburger on a small paper plate with some French fries in the checkered container beside it. I added a small amount of salad onto my plate as well.
"What do you mean?"
"She was cold to me in first period for some reason."
"Do you think you did something?"
"I'm not sure."
"Well, good luck anyway."
"Thanks." I walked over to Morticia and Gomez's table and took a seat.
"Hey" Morticia smiled at me. Kind of.
"Hey guys."
"Why aren't you sitting with Bianca?"
"Im annoyed at her."
"Well she's looking at you."
"Let her look all she wants, but until she tells me why she's being so rude I won't give her my attention."
"Good on you."
"Right." Gomez added with his fork in the air.
"What class do you guys have?" I ate a bite of salad and pulled my phone from my pocket.
"I still haven't picked a club, so today I'm trying out fencing."
"I have algebra." He sighed.
I bit my tongue.
"Are you sure you want to try out fencing?"
"Why not? You don't want me to take your spotlight?"
"It won't be my spotlight you're taking."
"Well, I'm still going to see if I like it." She drank from her water bottle and smiled.
"Suit yourself."
