Lights and Sirens

A lot has changed

Casey with the smell of pancakes wafting through the apartment. He rolled over to say good morning to Gabby but she wasn't there. Matt sighed. He rolled over and checked his phone, he had messages from: his doctor, chief Boden and kelly. He opened the one from his doctor first. This was the message.

'Hello Matt, I just wanted to remind you that your month and two weeks recovery is over and your clear to go back to work. Yours sincerely, Dr Robson.'

Then he opened the chiefs message.

'Hey Matt, I got a message from Dr Robson he said that your clear for work. Hope to see you at work today and we must plan something for Gabby because as you know it is her last shift before she goes on maternity leave. See you soon. Chief.'

Then he opened Kelly's message.

'Call me as soon as you get this!'

Matt sat up in bed, he was a little worried. He dialled Kelly's number and put the phone to his ear.

'What has he done now?' Casey thought.

The phone rang on Kelly's side of the bed.

"What?" he asked grouchily.

"Hey? Kelly it's Matt. I got your text to call you." Matt said a little confused.

Kelly's eyes widened as he looked over to see a blind woman laying beside him.

'Oh no!' he thought to himself.

"You still there?" Matt asked.

"Yea, ok give me a second and I will tell you everything" Kelly replied.

Dawson was sitting opposite Brian at the table with a plate of pancakes in front of him and a bowl of yoghurt in front of her. She slowly spooned the yoghurt into her mouth, she really didn't want to eat this. She wanted to look like she was eating normally (by this she meant not eating for two). She would give anything to be able to eat a full English breakfast right now. She looked at the time and saw that it was 07:15am, Matt and herself had to be at the firehouse in 45 minutes and she wasn't even changed.

"Brian look I am really sorry but I have to go and get ready for work!" she said.

"Hey, it's ok" he said as Gabby stood up and started to go upstairs. "Maybe I can come and see you at the firehouse?" he called.

"Err yea sure. I will send you the address later!". She said jogging up the stairs and into the bedroom. She walked into the bedroom and saw Matt standing facing the window with his phone to his ear.

"Everything ok?" she asked.

"Err, yea" Matt a little surprised.

"Who were you on the phone to?" she asked.

"Kelly, he just told me who is going to take Otiss place on truck. He told me not to tell you until we have roll call later. But your not going to like it!" Matt replied.
