Backstory: Rosa was never meant to be born. Her mother was unable to bare children, her and Rosa's father prayed to God for a child. While they waited for the time to come for a child but they saw that praying wasn't helping. They became so desperate that they asked a demon to help. In return, their souls, but they agreed with the demon that they'd live up to Rosa's 13th birthday so that she could have a family to remember.
She grew up as any normal citizen would but she helped out as many people as she could because she hated seeing people sad or in a bad situation. The demon stayed hidden, still watching over the two parents and made sure that they didn't try to break the contract. They knew there wasn't a way so they didn't. On Rosa's 13th birthday, her parents had died but it was made to look like a carriage accident. Rosa was home with a sitter while they were going to get her a present. A turquoise gem necklace, Rosa's favourite color and gem.
Rosa was put into an orphanage after her parents death and was raised with other kids. The orphanage was poor and barely had enough food to give full meals to every kid. Rosa didn't like seeing the younger kids grow hungry so she shares her food with them. Because of that she barely eats at all, which meant she could get sick more easily than the rest of the kids.
A few months after she turned 14, she got very ill and then slowly died. The angels saw her as a mortal angel so when she died, they made her into an angel as well. But because she was never meant to be born and her birth was tanted by a demon, her wings were a shade of gray. The angels knew why her wings were tanted but never told her why. Just said that they could fix her. Make her "perfect" and cleansed her and cleansed her until she couldn't take it anymore.
She got sick of being tortured like that and then left to hide with the mortals. While she was hiding she ran into Grell while he was taking care of a soul on the "to die" list. At first he didn't like her because of her being an angel but slowly warmed up to her when he heard about her past and why she left. Grell then took it upon himself to become her new guardian. They started to live in an small apartment with only a few people living in the building.
While Rosa was living there, she met a middle aged lady named Madilynn who owned a clothing store. Madilynn helped Rosa get a job at the store so she could have money to get supplies and food, since Grell never really got a paying job. Since Grell was barely there to keep Rosa company, Rosa moved in with Madilynn and Madilynn treated her like her own daughter. She was a single lady and never had a husband but always wanted a child. So Rosa was a blessing to her, she showed Rosa how to make her own clothes and tailor outfits.
Rosa has a sketchbook where she can make her own outfits and come up with ideas for outfits to sell at the clothing store. She loves to design and Madilynn always praised her work. She makes sure to walk with Rosa back to the apartment so she knows she's safe. Even when Madilynn had to work late at the shop, she walks Rosa home and then goes back to the shop.
