CHAPTER TWO.              Pilot

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

SLOANE WAS IN HER HOTEL ROOM with Kennedy while Sam and Dean got their own. She had just gotten out of the shower and given Kennedy a bath. The little girl was coloring while watching a kid's show on the TV. Sloane had her hands in her lap, looking at her cell phone.

It was a tough day, especially after the scare the night before on the bridge. Maybe she should've called her mom to take Kennedy. Maybe she should've called Kennedy's dad—

That would've been awful. Kennedy would've hated being with her dad. But did Sloane have any other options? Her half-sisters, maybe. Sloane was the youngest of three girls, after all. But she wasn't sure. She didn't want to make a mistake. But maybe she already did by bringing Kennedy along.

But it was all temporary, is what Sloane said to herself. She and Kennedy would be back home Monday. So, Sloane got changed into a dark red T-shirt and jeans and got Kennedy dressed too. Kennedy raved about colors, and how she learned red and blue made purple. Sloane nodded along, putting Kennedy in a striped dressed and laid over a white shirt. She was in the midst of doing Kennedy's hair when she got an abrupt knocking on her door.

"Who's that?" Kennedy asked, fiddling with the pink bow that matched some of the stripes on her dress.

"I don't know, stay right there, Bunny," Sloane said, leaving Kennedy on the bed while she moved to the door. Sloane slowly moved to the door, opening it slightly to reveal a police officer. The one from the day before.

"Excuse me, ma'am. Do you perhaps know a man by the name of Hector Aframian?"

Sloane's stomach sank. She knew this had to be about Sam or Dean. She frowned, shaking her head. "I'm sorry, no." She said as she looked back at Kennedy again. Sloane slowly stepped out, leaving the door open just a crack as she looks at Deputy Jaffe. "Is something wrong?"

"There's a man here in the motel that came in yesterday at the same time you did." He explained, studying her reactions. "We have reason to believe he may have something to do with the highway disappearances, along with one or more accomplices." Sloane's eyes widen. Obviously that wasn't true, but she wasn't supposed to know that. And she couldn't risk getting arrested, too.

"Highway disappearances?" She played oblivious. The deputy raised a brow. "Does this have anything to do with that car out by that bridge?" He seemed tp believe her so far. Sloane sighed in dismay, shaking her head. "I'm sorry, I wish I knew more, but I haven't left this room since yesterday. I've been taking care of my daughter while trying to figure out a way back home." She lied easily. As if on cue, Kennedy began to call out for her mother inside the room.
