September.
It was now nine months since Namjoon and Soohyun had gotten together, and eleven since they had their first encounter. By mere coincidence, it was the two lovers' birthday month. Namjoon's birthday came first on the twelfth and then followed Soohyun's birthday on the nineteenth. They only had a week difference. The topic arose when Aerie had asked Soohyun for ideas as to what to give her uncle.
-
"Eunni, I have an important question." Aerie asked the woman sitting on the balcony with her. They were at Taehyung's apartment. He, Jungkook and Namjoon were inside playing video games.
"Shoot." She replied.
"Okay, Uncle Joon's birthday is on Friday and I don't know what to give him." Asked, really needing help as she had no idea what to gift him.
"Wait, this friday?" Slight panic and confusion was mixed into her tone.
"Did you not know? Soohyun, he's your boyfriend and you didn't know?" Aerie asked in disbelief.
"He never mentioned it. Come to think of it, I don't think he knows mine either." Soohyun thought out loud. She genuinely had no idea when his birthday was until now. And to say it was last minute would be both accurate and an understatement.
"When's yours?" Aerie asked.
"Next Friday. Looks like he and I are only a week apart." Soohyun answered.
"Oh my gosh, you two suck." Aerie laughed.
"What? No we don't." Soohyun said, not really defensive or offended.
"Soohyun, you two have been together for how long? And you're just now finding out it's going to be your boyfriend's birthday. Plus, he still doesn't know yours." Aerie explained her reasoning. "Isn't that one of the first things people ask each other when they're interested? Or even becoming friends?"
"We didn't. I know other things though." She shrugged. "Do you do anything on Sunday's?"
"Not really, other than paint and read." Aerie said truthfully. "Sometimes I go grocery shopping with my dad but that's every other week."
"So you're free tomorrow?" Soohyun asked Aerie.
"Yeah, how come?" Aerie had an idea of what Soohyun was going to say however she wanted to hear her.
"We're gonna see what we find for Namjoon. I don't want to be pinned as a bad girlfriend before we've even been together for a year." She shrugged.
"Okay, I'm sure my mom will be okay with it. She likes you so I don't think there'll be a problem." Aerie said, shrugged.
"Okay then it's settled." Soohyun relaxed. "You're helping me find something he'll like."
"You can't figure out what he'll like? I mean, you're his girlfriend. Shouldn't you be able to figure this out?" Aerie asked in a teasing manner.
"I never said I was a good girlfriend either." Soohyun laughed.
"You got me there. Can you help me with my homework?" Aerie changed the subject.
"Sure."
Soohyun and Aerie spent the rest of the evening figuring out Aerie's maths assignment. Occasionally Namjoon would go out and see that they were alright. He'd also take a quick peek over Aerie's paper and see what they were working on. Taehyung insisted they come inside but Aerie loved doing her homework on the balcony when she was at Tae's apartment.
"We have to go home." Namjoon said while peeking out of the door. "And I need to take you home too." He said while directing his attention towards Aerie.
