The sound of scraping arritates Marin.

"Will you just shut up?" Marin yells. "I'm trying to have peace and quiet here!"

Oh right. Welcome to Marin's den. It's the average size of a normal den, with normal walls, normal chairs, normal beds, normal everything.

It's just the family that isn't normal.

You see, most cats will share this den with it's family members, like, share their bed sometimes, relax with each other on the couch, chill together by watching TV, you know, the normal things.

Yet, Marin's family isn't in the most. Her family is completely different. They hate each other. The mother and father are both divorced, Marin and her older sister hate each other to a place you cannot go farther in.

They do not share. They have completely separated themselves from each other. Including the mother they choose to live with. Their father didn't want to children, and the mother took pity, but after a while, she regreted the decision.

I should've let them to rot outside the rain. Their mother, Dakota, always thinks when Marin and her older sister, Lily, get in trouble.

"It's not my fault!" Lily shouts back. "Who cares about making sounds? I'm trying to make music, so mind your own business!"

And we're back to the den.

"GIRLS!" Dakota snaps. "I know you both hate each other, but you can at least try to be nice for once! Stop scolding each other. Now."

"Nice is not a word in my vocabulary," Marin says back calmly, not blinking her amber-like yellow eyes at her mother, "at least not to my devil-of-a-sister."

"Well it isn't in MINE either, then!" Lily snaps back. She throws her blankets away from her bed, and pads away loudly from her den.

After she opened the door, left, and slammed the door hard, Marin almost smiles.

"Good riddance," She mutters to herself.

Oh, have I forgot to introduce you to our main character? How foolish of myself.

Marin is an almost 1-and-a-half year old kitten. She's a midnight black kitten with gold eyes. She looks basically half dead, with her almost never-blinking eyes, almost never-smiling mouth, and cold, stiff skin.

Her personality is unlikeable. Why? She's as cold as ice. Never has she said something nice or kind to anyone. Only to congratulate herself on hurting or even murdering someone. That's also the only way she'll smile.

Unless someone amuses her. But that's close to impossible.

Dakota always thought it was weird and unreasonable that Marin was that color. She was grey, and her husband was calico. How did Marin turn out black?

That's a mystery that you probably know the answer to already. Here's a hint: It has to do with a certain ancestor from long ago that disappeared mysteriously.

"Marin, take that back," Dakota tries to say as nicely as she can. Her blood was boiling.

"Why?" Marin asks back, giving her mother the death glare she was ever so good at giving.

"You can't be happy that your sister just left," Dakota says, and there was a sharp edge to her voice. "Especially because she left since you made her mad."

"That's great," Marin says. "I love making other cats angry. Like how I'm enjoying making your blood boil right now."

Dakota rolls her bright green eyes. "Why are you like this all the time?"

"Why don't you ask that to Lily?" Marin counters. "Maybe she's  the one you shound ask."

"No, Marin," Dakota snaps. "Marin, look at me." She waits until Marin slowly lifts her head to meet her eyes. "I know you hate each other. And it's making my life more horrible by the second. But I'm a mother. I would've left you to rot in the rain if it wasn't for that. I hate James for leaving us like this. Without a happy family-"

"I doubt I'd be any more different than I am now if your husband even left," Marin interrupts. "And not to say anything, your little story isn't moving me. I would love to be alone."

Dakota raises both of her paws up, surrendering. "Fine. As you wish, then."

Marin closes her eyes. Finally. Peace.

-----

After a while, Lily storms back in, soaking wet.

Marin immediately wakes up from her so called, peace. "Why are you back so quick? I wanted more peace."

"Why are you wet like that?" Dakota asks, still a little furious about the talk she just had with Marin.

"Oh, it's raining outside, if you haven't noticed," Lily says sarcastically. "And it's been more than an hour, MARIN. I've been gone for longer than you think."

"I think we have different meanings for long," Marin tells her sister flatly. "I feel like it's hardly been five minutes."

Lily meows at her younger sister.

Ah, the soothing sound of a cat's meow or purr.

But not to Marin, I think. She rolls her eyes and covers her ears with her paws.

"Shut up, please," Marin spit. "I'm trying to listen to my kind of music."

"Wait, I know," Dakota says. "Marin, maybe you should be outside for once. I know it's raining, but you can take one of those-"

"I don't need to take rainpaws," Marin stands up. "I'll gladly go outside to get away from you two. I'll be gone, and be back by midnight. Don't look for me."

Lily's smile is sour as Marin walks toward the door and leaves.

Hurry up, readers, as we will have to follow her as she meets her absolute thrilling and exciting doom.

Marin is looking forward to it, since she loves dark turns.
