Jenna directed the two of you to your classroom with ease. You found it quite impressive, in fact, how effortlessly she was able to slip through the crowd of other students. You definitely weren't thinking about the warmth of her hand in yours or the tingling feeling that it caused to shoot up your arm.
Once you arrived, there were hardly any seats left available; there was one in the back left corner and one in the back right, so you and Jenna separated as you bee-lined for the desk near the window. You always had some trouble staying focused--it had gotten much worse since the accident; now, you hardly had an attention span at all--and cloud-watching tended to help keep you entertained in classes.
"Funny seeing you here, locker neighbor," a somewhat familiar voice said from the desk on your right as you settled in your seat. You turned to them, an involuntary blush rising to your cheeks at the sight of Mikey, a wide smile pulling at her lips.
"M-Mikey! Hi," you stammered out, internally cursing yourself for sounding awkward. However, rather than turn away as you half-expected her to, the raven-haired girl simply smiled wider.
"I hadn't heard your voice yet, but I've gotta say that I think it's one of the most attractive sounds," she said smoothly, words never once betraying her. "Especially when it's my name you're saying."
You blushed harder--if that was even possible--and your throat fell dry. "I--thank you," you finally said.
She studied you for a moment, eyes scanning your form, before she said, "How about you give me your number and we can hang out later? I could...show you around town?"
"I...yeah. Yeah, that'd be--that'd be really great," you said as the girl handed you her phone. You quickly added yourself as a contact, ignoring your shaking fingers, and then gave it back to the raven-haired girl, who looked absolutely overjoyed at your actions.
"Perfect." She clicked her phone shut. "I'll see you tonight, then."
Before you could think of any sort of response, your teacher walked into the room and commanded everyone's attention. You faced forward and sank down in your seat slightly, trying to ignore the piercing gaze you could feel from the girl next to you.
The teacher began to introduce himself, and you could already feel yourself growing bored. You tried to focus on what he was saying, but once he started reviewing the syllabus, you mentally checked out, staring at the window and trying to make shapes out of the clouds.
You were drawn from your thoughts when your phone buzzed on your desk. Discreetly, you flipped it over to see the screen, and you were surprised when you saw you had a message from an unknown number.
Unknown (8:02am): was mikey bothering u
You frowned, eyebrows furrowing together at the question, before unlocking your phone and sending a message right back.
You (8:03am): who is this
Unknown (8:03am): jenna
Unknown (8:03am): maddie gave all of us ur number
You leaned over to glance at the girl on the opposite end of the classroom, and she smiled back at you. She waved with her phone in hand, and you slumped back, trying to ignore the increased speed of your heart.
You (8:05am): oh well hi
You (8:05am): and no, mikey's not bothering me
You (8:06am): i just gave her my number
Jenna (8:06am): why????
You (8:06am): i dunno, she's nice and offered to show me around
You (8:06am): is that a problem
You watched as the girl's text bubble popped up, waiting for her response, before it disappeared. You leaned over to look at her again. Her phone was still in her hands, and her fingers were moving rapidly as she texted someone else. With a shrug, you leaned back, trying to refocus on your teacher.
A few minutes passed before your phone vibrated again.
Mads (8:12am): YOU GAVE MIKEY UR NUMBER
Mads (8:12am): OMG OMG OMG OMG
You typed back a short response.
You (8:13am): that was quick
As you waited for your cousin's reply, another text came in.
Unknown (8:14am): any chance u know why ur cousin is currently texting me in all caps
Unknown (8:14am): its kind of unnerving tbh
Unknown (8:14am): also its mikey btw
You glanced at the girl beside you, and she smirked back with little shame as her eyes drifted towards her phone, telling you to answer her text.
You (8:15am): maddies like insane
You (8:15am): soooo
The raven-haired girl chuckled lowly, careful not to draw any attention to herself as her thumbs moved across the screen of her phone quickly.
Mikey :) (8:16am): trust me, i already know
Mikey :) (8:16am): so, how's 6 sound for that little tour?
You could feel yourself blushing up to your ears, and you sincerely hoped that Mikey wasn't looking at you in that moment. However, before you could answer, another message came through.
Jenna (8:17am): nope, not a problem at all.
You tried to ignore the sinking feeling at the sight of the period at the end of her sentence.
