My parents, brother and I were all hiding in our neighbors house, in their attic to be exact. We have been there for months. After we heard the news that the Den'in people in other villages and cities were being killed by the plant worshippers, and we knew that the rest of us in the Undercity were the next targets.
Our neighbors were the Luna family. There was a father, Logan, a mother, Shelly, and a son, my best friend, Umbreto. They all looked very similar, dark clear skin and black coily hair, but each one of them had it done in a different way.
It was peaceful for a long time, so long that we thought the plant worshippers wouldn't come, but we were wrong. Very wrong.
Fast footsteps and hushed but intense voices echoed.
Umbreto was the one who noticed unknown people arriving, and he immediately went to tell his parents.
"They'll find you in the attic." Said Shelly, looking for a better place to hide my family and I.
"Under the floor boards. We can take out a few floors boards so you can get under them. They won't find you there." Logan explained.
Once we were down there. It was silent. Completely silent. The only noises were the occasional sound of one members of the Luna family looking through the drapes of the windows.
My hand was over my mouth. Even if I was being completely silent, I'm not risking them to even hear my breathing.
Knocking emanates from the wooden door. It's reluctantly opened.
A foreign voice started to speak in a language I couldn't understand, and what ever was said was answered by Logan, a voice I could recognize.
The continued to talk. It felt like so long, hours even.
I watched as the unknown person walked over to were my family and I were under the floor boards. The person's shadow fell over me.
Then I heard new foot steps enter the room, they were softer, it sounded like they didn't have any shoes on.They suddenly stopped talking, and I heard a sniffle, a short childlike sound. It was Umbreto.
Fear started to crawl up my body. My little brother was right next to me in a fetal position, his eyes squeezed shut as tears fell from them. I wanted to hug him, to tell him he was fine and everything was okay, but I couldn't, moving would make to much noise.
"I doesn't matter if your hiding them." A young male voice said, his tone was flat and intimidating. "All of you are going to die anyway."
Sharp objects began to pierce the floor boards we were hiding in, wood pieces flew everywhere. The many spine like knives plunged into my family members, my brother's blood sprayed all over my face. One of the sharp tendrils shot directly at my head, but I moved away in time. I thought I was safe, but one of them successfully slashed a long deep diagonal cut in on right leg.
The screams of my family and of my neighbors forced their way into my ears. Blood covered my face and body, tears ran down my cheeks, but I didn't scream. I wanted to, but I couldn't. Angry red flames started to grow in the house, smoke filled my lungs.
I need to get out.My body began to move on its own. I pushed pass the dead body of my brother and crawled as fast as I could to the vent that lead outside.
Dust, blood and fear soaked my body. My only thought was: "Get out. Get out. Get out."
I pushed past it rusty grate, the blood on my hands left red marks on the metal
Bars.I got up from my position and ran, ran as fast as I could towards the opening of the Undercity that led to the desert. My legs burned, blood dripped from my right one. The flames had not only been in the Luna's house, it had consumed the entire village.
I looked back for a second, but I never lost my speed.
I saw a boy, a boy with platinum blonde hair and piercing diamond eyes, multiple shiny spines grew like vines from his back.
Millions Knives.
He was looking at me, straight at me. We made eye contact. His silver and white coat looked untouched in comparison to my dirty blood soaked dress. He smirked at me.
Smirked.
Hatred started to bubble in my stomach, and I looked away from him. I couldn't bare look at him any longer. If I did, I would puke my guts out.
"I expect to see you again!" He yelled at me. I didn't answer. He didn't deserve an answer.
"Goodbye, Y/n!"
My legs hurt. Tears stained my face. The blood on my body started to feel heavy on my skin.
They were gone. Everything I knew was gone.
Everything.
