"Finally, hurry up and set it down before it gets cold! I can't stand cold rice."
I just ignored May-Long's annoying voice and placed the try onto the table.
"Looks delicious, thank you Asteria" said my father as I placed his bowl and chopsticks down in front of him.
May-Long scoffed, "The shrimp seems to be over cooked. Notice how the tails are curled inward to look like small O's, that should tell you that they have been overcooked!"
"Well maybe if you didn't rush me, they wouldn't be over cooked" I said as I began to eat.
"I don't need your back talk little girl, and where in the world is the tea?! How am I supposed to wash down your horrendous cooking without any tea?!"
"May-Long that's not necessary, Asteria will you please bring us the tea? Afterwards you may continue eating" my father said.
It took every once of me not to groan or roll my eyes. But I said nothing and went back into the kitchen to get the tea.
"Mother, great ancestors, bless me with the strength to ignore this arrogant woman's insults...and to not poison her tea"   I prayed in my mind silently.
With the tea on a tray fresh and still hot, I slowly approached the table and poured my father a cup.
He sipped it and sighed happily. I could feel my stomach rumbling so I quickly poured another cup for May-Long. But gasped as she purposely moved the tea cup I was holding and caused me to spill hot tea on my hand.
I gasped in pain and she put on the most dramatic show of the century.
"Why you clumsy little brat! Why don't you watch what you're doing?! Look at the table it's stained with tea! It could have gotten on my new outfit!" She screamed.
I glared at her as I clutched my red hand that was beginning to swell.
"Asteria, you could have burned May-Long! Apologies this instant!" My father demanded.
"She should be apologizing to me! She purposely caused this to happen" I said getting more and more angry.
"How dare you, didn't your mother ever teach you any manners?! Oh I'm sorry clearly not. Surely Yukari was just as rude as her useless daughter is now. You're such a disgrace to this family."
That was the last straw for me, I picked up my bowl of food and threw it in her face.
Both May-long and my father gasped at my actions, but I didn't care. I could feel my face burning with rage.
"Keep my mother's name out of your filthy mouth! She was twice the woman you will ever be! And if anyone is a disgrace around here it's you! This is a sad excuse for a family!"
I turned towards my father who just stared at me in shock.
"Mother would be so ashamed of you! You should've been the one to go!"
With that said I ran out of the dining room and down the hall to my room. Slamming and locking the door behind me, I layed down on my bed and screamed into my pillow.
The rage and pain that I was feeling inside of me was consuming my heart and mind..and I wasn't sure how much longer I could hold on before losing myself completely... All I knew was that I had to get away from this toxic home environment.
