Ch.8:Take Me With You

I could feel my heart skip a beat as I looked into those yellow eyes.
Slowly he leaned in closer, so close that I could nearly feel his lips on mine.
But suddenly in the distance we heard a man's voice calling out for him.
"Boss! Shan-Yu! Where are you boss we gotta get moving!!"
Shan-Yu groaned and helped me to my feet.
"I should get going, but I'm glad I got to see you tonight."
"You're leaving?" I asked with dread spilling throughout my whole body.
"We never stay in one spot for long. We're off to find another area to make camp.
"...Do you have to go?' I asked holding onto his arm.
"Well yeah, if we stay here any longer I'm sure the people of your village will begin to panic and we'll have no choice but to attack" he explained.
"..Can't I ...Can't I go with you?" I asked knowing he probably wouldn't be to big on the idea.
"Asteria..it's not safe. There are no women in the Hun army. It's no guarantee that you'd be safe."
"But I can take care of myself! Please don't make me go back home. I'm not wanted there and I just can't take it anymore. Please I promise I won't get in the way. I'll cook for you and your men, I'll even make sure you all have clean clothes and we'll fed horses. Please Shan-Yu" I said pleading with him.
He sighed, "How do you know your father won't be looking for you?!"
"He won't! He only cares about his bitch of a wife. I don't want to be there anymore!" I said holding back tears.
"What about your mother?" He asked.
"Mama will understand, it's not like I can never come back and visit her" I said as I ran my fingers across her headstone.
"Fine...but don't say I didn't warn you. Just stay close to me and I'll do my best to keep you alive. Now grab your things, we have to go now."
I nodded and did as I was told.
I whispered one last goodbye to mama before disappearing into the night with my dangerous friend.
