Oogie Boogie returned. His steps were quiet, a shadow creeping up to the door and its presence a wicked shape. Jack did not move and did not speak. He still sat beside his friend, finding bravery in the circumstances of his situation. Oogie boogie slinked into the room, and only offered his hand to Jack. Jack grabbed it and he was pulled up and away from Dr. Finkletsein. He watched as he was guided out from the room, and he was sad when the door was shut and he was again disconnected from his friend- the part of himself which gave confidence is now missing and Jack is once again alone to face the horrors. Jack looked up at Oogie, who was calm and when he smiled it was without heinous bugs obscuring the expression into a nasty collection. Oogie pets the back of Jack's hand, feeling the intricacies of the bone and the fixtures of the joints which twitched and bent at the touch.

"It's late, you should go to bed."

Jack nodded. He could not tell the time, but it indeed felt late. He was exhausted and did not realize it. Dr. Finklestein slept behind the closed door, safe so long as Jack was within his presence, but there was no choice in the departure. Oogie Boogie escorted Jack to the bedroom.

"Would you like anything before you retire? A glass of water, or a kiss goodnight?" Oogie Boogie asked.

A chill ran through Jack's spine.

"A K... Kiss goodnight?" He repeated, not aware he said it aloud.

"Yes, if it would ease your slumber if we kiss before we part." The words seemed unnatural coming out from Oogie. It was smooth, his deep voice could have belonged to another man- it was without malice. Perhaps he had always spoken in this way, but it could not be heard over the cackling of his laughter and crawling bugs which adorned his manner of speech. Jack's heart is heavy in his chest. Oogie Boogie leans closer. Jack takes a step back, knocking himself on the door. He searches for the handle - a snake curled and twisted into a fixture - and he steps backwards into the room with the swing of the hinges.

"You're a delight, Jack. Don't let the bedbugs bite." Oogie Boogie said, not pressing further. His tongue rattled and hissed, and bugs again fall from his mouth and land in a miserable, scattering heap upon the floor. Jack closes the door, pushing the bugs out of the room with it.

Jack keeps his hand on the door. He does not feel it lock, and he wonders if it is even able to lock- has it ever been locked?. He does not test this theory as he can still feel Oogie Boogie's presence. Jack looks down and finds the rose still tucked into his lapel. It is taken out and held between his thumb and finger, and Jack looks at his hand which Oogie is so fixated upon. A painful twinge knots itself in Jack's heart because he thinks a thought that should never be thought. Of all the citizens of HalloweenTown, between each and everyone there is a common knowledge: Oogie Boogie is a terrible, scheming villain. And yet, Jack thought in his own delirium but did not allow himself to finish it. He is tired and must rest for the sake of himself and for Dr. Finklestein, and for HalloweenTown.
