"We have to stop him." Jack said to Dr. Finklestein. They are alone in the room, speaking in hushed voices and peering over their shoulders for any unwanted listeners.

"Tomorrow is our only chance. He is growing impatient with me, I cannot delay the inevitable any longer. This device is for you, my friend. Take it and keep it safe. All you have to do is press the button when the time comes. Come back for me, I cannot leave this cave by myself with my old bones. I put all of my trust into you."

Jack took the device. It was made out of scraps but with a prominent red button and antennae which extends from the top. He hides it in his pocket. Jack looks over the machinery that his friend had been working on all of this time, the empty metal bodies soon to be filled and the sets of wings soon to be flying. The tails are sharp pricks and mouths made of saw blades. Jack gives a firm handshake to Dr. Finklestein and quietly leaves.

He slips into his room and it is there, once again in his own lonesome but braver now than he had ever been, that he waits.
