I only see daylight

Chapter 4

Dani woke up the next morning. She was feeling happy, refreshed and content. Jamie had left after a few hours the previous evening and Dani went to bed feeling light. Yet she felt weird, she couldn't describe it, it was an overall weird feeling. Everything was fine and yet here she was, questioning if she was doing something wrong. Dani decided to call Rebecca, her good friend.

"Hey, what are you doing right now?" Dani said directly after Rebecca picked up the phone.

"Nothing much, laying in bed, it is only 10 am after all." Rebecca answered.

"You wanna come over?" Dani finally said after thinking for a few seconds.

"Yeah sure, got nothing better to do." Rebecca said and Dani could practically hear the grin on Rebecca's face.

Half an hour later Rebecca was standing in front of Dani's apartment door, waiting to be let inside. Dani opened the door to see Rebecca standing in front of it in her grey sweatpants and oversized white t-shirt. "Just in case." Rebecca said while holding up a bottle of wine and smiling. "Come in." Dani said, grinning.

"So, why are you being so mysterious?" Rebecca asked curiously. "What do you mean?" Dani said, genuinely confused. "Well, normally you would've already told me why I'm here." Rebecca said, smiling. "Well, you know, I met someone and-" Dani said slowly before being interrupted by Rebecca; "Oh my god, what's his name, where'd you meet, is he sexy?" Dani didn't know what to say, she hadn't thought past this moment. She knew she wanted to tell Rebecca all about Jamie, how she made her feel so much more than Eddie, or anyone for that matter, how Jamie's smile was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen. Dani wanted to say so much, yet she was silent. She felt something she'd never felt before in any situation with Rebecca; it felt like a mixture of sadness and shame. Why was she feeling sad? Why was she ashamed to tell her? Dani's mind was going about 200 mph and she didn't know what she should say.

"Is something wrong, Dani?" Rebecca asked, looking concerned. "No." Dani started. "I- I guess I just don't know how to say this." Dani looked down onto the gray carpet that was laying underneath the couch table. "I'm concerned, Dani, you do know that you can tell me everything, right?" Rebecca finally said after a few moments of silence. "Yeah, yeah I know, Becks." Dani said and suddenly she felt tears forming in her eyes. "I did meet someone, it's just-" Dani took a deep breath. "It's a woman." She felt a single tear run down her cheek. "Oh, Dani, why are you crying? That's amazing, why would you be sad about it?" Rebecca inquired, putting her hand on Dani's shoulder. "I- I don't know, Becks, it just feels so weird." Dani could feel more tears falling down her cheeks. "I really like her, she's so amazing and she makes me feel so amazing and I just want to spend all my time with her but know I can't stop thinking that I'm disappointing someone." Rebecca looked confused for a second, then started; "Why would that disappoint anyone, Dani, it's so wonderful that you can finally talk about someone like that. I want nothing more in the world than to see you this excited. There's no reason to feel bad about it."

Dani felt herself relaxing a bit again. "I know, I know. I've tried so long to find some perfect guy who could make me feel something and it never worked out, I just want to be happy, and Jamie makes me feel appreciated and happy, more than any of the men in my life ever could. So, I guess it is a good thing and I don't get why I'm suddenly sad about it." Dani said after thinking for a few seconds. "Damn, Jamie's a pretty sexy name, if you ask me." Rebecca said with a smirk. Now Dani finally felt like she could completely relax again.

Dani spent the next 30 minutes detailing every encounter she'd had with Jamie, how she made her feel and how great she was. After that time Dani realized that Jamie made her happy, there was no reason for her to feel ashamed about it.

After 2 more hours, Rebecca had to leave to go to her babysitter job she'd accepted for that day. Dani was laying in bed at 2 pm and decided to text Jamie.

"Heyy :)"

"Hello :)" Jamie answered after a few moments.

"You free tonight?" Dani decided to write after staring at her phone and feeling her heart start to beat faster.

"Always free for you, love ;)" Jamie answered.

Dani smiled at her phone and felt a blush creeping onto her cheeks.
