My head was spinning that night, I couldn't wait for Monday after practice.I wondered what to do with Lucas, but only briefly here and there, I had so many more feelings about having shared a straw with Sadie than about the peck on the lips he stole on my way out of his car.
"How was it??"
The second I entered the house Mom Amelia sat up on the couch where she was laying on top of my mom Laura, I laughed.
"It was fun, I made one of the top scores!" I didn't lie.
"That's my girl!" Mom Laura lightly shook a fist in celebration. "What about Lucas?" She added.
"Didn't score as high", I shrugged.
She hummed but I knew they were dying of curiosity.
"He kissed me."
"That's my girl!" Mom Amelia joked, she had no idea. She would've been so proud of me had she only known about how flustered I made Sadie a few times throughout the evening.
I chose to keep that part of the evening just for me to know and enjoy privately.
"I'm glad things went okay hun," Mom Laura probably referred to our recent talk about me making meaningful connections.
I nodded and hugged them both before going to hide in my room.
As I removed my make up I had flashbacks of glimpses of the previous hours, I could see clearly Sadie's facial expressions, my favorite was the one from when her eyes fell on my chest.
It almost made me want to wear something special on Monday.
An anxious feeling pulled in my lower abdomen, what if on Monday she wanted to tell me that she was just messing with me? Maybe it had all been a plot to expose my sexuality and she was going to laugh at me with her friends. Why would she like me anyways?
I took a breath and tried to be rational.
She was not evil.
She was the person who had gotten me the ice cream float.
She had not let anyone notice our interactions.
She respected my privacy and she didn't make a fool of Lucas.
What would I tell her about Lucas? I mean, she was there with Logan, so she probably wouldn't have cared.
I went back to thinking about her face, the smirks, and even the ones she threw at me while looking somewhere else.
Did I want to kiss her on Monday? The thought was scary but if she had tried I wouldn't have stopped her. Maybe I even hoped she did.
What if I was reading too much into the situation? What if she sat next to me because she was friendly and my attraction to her was making me think there was more in her actions than there actually was? Maybe she truly didn't realize she was touching my leg or my hand. Perhaps my one comment was too much and weirded her out. No way to know for sure.
I fell asleep that evening with my mind still racing hundreds of miles an hour.
Monday morning when my mom came to get me I immediately got out of bed, my nerves were killing me and there was no way I could just lay there one more minute.
I got ready and ran down to eat my breakfast.
"You look nice," Nate said, but it didn't sound like a compliment, more like a question.
"Thanks?"
His comment got my moms' attention.
Mom Laura smiled and Mom Amelia wiggled her eyebrows at me, they were thinking about Lucas.
