A.N. Another one 'cause we can't break their first date halfway through, enjoy!
We finally started to eat and the tension between us began to ease up.
Knowing we had similar feelings towards each other was a win, even if the circumstances were worse than I had imagined.
I took a bite of my burrito and she smiled at me.
"I feel like you know so much more about me than I do about you now," She poked at her French toast.
"Really? I thought everybody knew everything about my family," I joked.
"I know what people say about your family, but not what you think or how you feel about them," She clarified.
I nodded, that was true, she knew how I felt about her seeing other people and a bunch of random personal data that people would share when talking about my family.
But I knew her secrets.
"Uhm, let's see, what would you like to know?"
"Who's your favorite family member?" She smiled and took a bite of her dinner.
I laughed, I usually got the "what is it like to have two moms" question, I wasn't expecting her to ask me about favorites.
"I don't have a favorite, my moms are one hundred percent the same when it comes to liking them, even though they're very different, both as people and as parents."
She nodded and listened to me.
"Gabe is older and when I was born he was already seven, we were kids at the same time but I don't really remember it, my first good memories of us are from when I started school and he was already in middle school. He understood me though, he was the one I'd go to if the twins were being annoying, it was very sad when he went to college four years ago. At the same time, it feels like he's been gone forever."
Was I talking too much? "What about your brothers?" I asked and took a sip of her milkshake.
"As I told you, my older brother is a junior in college, he's four years older than me. We were adopted together when I was a toddler, I remember nothing of that time or before then."
That was completely new information to me, I wondered if anyone at school knew.
"We were very close growing up, but since he left he had to take his distance from my parents and I don't get to talk to him very often. Then my mom died and my dad and step-mom had my little brother, he's almost six now, and I love him so much."
Alright, that was way messier than I thought. There was no way that people at school knew.
"You are such a cool person," I told her, unsure of what else to say but to voice my thoughts.
She laughed, "I'm sorry if I'm oversharing, I don't know what just took over me," She seemed actually embarrassed.
"Don't be ridiculous! That's very far from oversharing." I was halfway through my burrito and I offered her a bite.
She took it and seemed relieved.
"What about the twins? You didn't say much about them," She asked.
"They're cool, they're like a year and a half older than me so we truly grew up as a team of three, I think we have more of the classic love-hate sibling relationship that one would expect."
"So your moms had twin babies and were like 'You know what's missing? another baby!'" She joked.
I couldn't help but laugh wholeheartedly at that, "That's what I always say!"
