Shattered "Love"

I smile as I remember the next class I have: Dance. I love dancing. I have always loved dancing. Heading to the dance room door, I register that it is not opened and that there is a line of kids there, waiting for it to be opened. Great. Sighing, I begin to walk toward the back of the line. The whispers start.

"Oh, no, not that klutz. This is going to ruin the entire class."

"But she's so clumsy, there's no doubt that she's going to be horrid in this class."

"Why is she even here?"

"She should change classes, or better yet, change schools."

And the laughter starts up all over again, everyone looking at me and pointing, saying rude things about when I tripped and what a klutz I am. My face starts to fel hot and I feel like I am about to cry when I hear that familiar voice.

"You guys are so immature. So what if she tripped? Everyone does! Just leave her alone or I am going to tell Ms. Melody. And we all know how she behaves when someone disrupts her dance class." It's the boy with golden brown hair, standing near the front of the line, looking at the mean kids, defending me yet again. Why does he have to be in so many of my classes? This is getting embarrassing. He doesn't even look at me.

"But-but she's a klutz! None of us have ever tripped in our years here at school. Well, never tripped over nothing! Don't tell me you want her in our dance class?" A ginger-haired girl asks, looking at the boy in disbelief,

"Rachel, be quiet. If it were you in this situation, would you want to be treated like this?" The boy asks, taking out his airpod and putting it in the case.

"Well, no, but-"

"Exactly, Rachel. Now be quiet. Ms. Melody is opening the door."

And that's when the door opens and a kind-looking teacher says, "In students, I have a fun routine planned for you!" Everyone files in, me going last because I walked in slowly. She continues, "Now, I understand we have a new student today. Welcome, to my class, Aubrey." She looks at me, as does every other student in the class, even the boy with the golden brown hair. I realize I have never heard his name, and this is the first time he hears mine. Perhaps I will find out what it is.

"Now, Aubrey, I want to find your skill level, so I will have a volunteer to teach you a dance, and we'll see how fast you get it." She looks around, but the boy already has his hand up. "Okay, then. Come and show our new student."

The boy steps in front of me and smiles with a raised eyebrow. "Try to keep up, yeah, Aubrey?" Why do I like the way he says my name?
