The light sound of early summer rain falling onto the king's open windows woke him up. As he quickly tried to get up in his morning confusion, to close the windows and keep the floor by them dry, familiar strong arms, wrapped around him, stopping him from doing that.

He couldn't do anything to keep the smile off of his face, and he gently laid back down, angling his body so that he could bury his head in the crook of his lover's neck. Or, well, whatever Mal was to him.

As he lay on his hip, looping his arms under Mal's and resting his palm on his shoulder, he learnt he didn't care much about how damp the floor of his room could get.

For a moment or two he slightly panicked, wondering if nestling against the tracker was really the best thing to do. What if Mal gets up and sees this is not what he wants after all and life will just be easier without Nikolai?

Nikolai wondered if it was for the best to just leave. It would certainly be easier for Mal without him and maybe this all was just a mistake.

He thought about it, looking at the door, wondering what Mal would think when he woke up.

But the mentioned tracker tightened his arms around the king's waist, pulling him nearer, while still asleep, and it made Nikolai feel like it was absurd to even think about getting up and forgetting about all this.

The blond couldn't keep himself from pressing a soft kiss to Mal's collarbone, laying his head back on the pillow, but intertwining their legs.

Still, even if Mal does want something serious with him and they would come to an agreement about things, there would be so many problems standing in their way. Like, convincing the council that Mal was a great choice for the king's partner and a possible father to the throne heir.

And yet, as the tracker moved his head closer to Nikolai's, nuzzling his nose in his hair, still asleep, the king couldn't bring himself to care about anything but him.

The rain was getting heavier and heavier with each passing second and this time he forced himself to stand up and close the windows.

As he neared the window, already grabbing the knob and pushing the window in its place, he could feel a pair of eyes, following his every movement.

"Good morning, do you miss me already?" Nikolai spoke softly, turning around and looking into Mal's soft eyes. Mal only warmly smiled in reply, slowly nodding and gesturing for Nikolai to come back. After he also closed the second window in the room, making sure rain won't come in from the third, he did.

This time, he went to the side of the embed that was occupied by Mal, lifted the covers and laid on top of him, using him as a bed. Mal lightly chuckled, smoothing the part of Nikolai's, well his but worn by Nikolai,
shirt that crumpled up while Nikolai was trying to get comfortable on top of Mal.

After, he gently laid his hands on the curve of the privateer's ass, sitting up a bit, pulling Nikolai with him. All of the things he felt for the younger fellow, pushed him to place a far too fond kiss on top of his lover's head.

Nikolai was happy to learn that the tracker preferred to sleep only in his underwear, while he was thoroughly enjoying wearing only Mal's slightly bigger than his shirt and underwear.

He couldn't tell how much time passed while he was silently enjoying being wrapped up in Mal's embrace, but after a while, he started getting a bit restless.

Not in a bad way and certainly not because he didn't like cuddling Mal, believe him, he could do that forever, but rather because his body...well... decided it was a great time to have sex.
