dream and george say bye at the airport before george goes to north carolina
- ❀ -
dream can sense that george is apprehensive about the trip. and not because he doesn't want to go, but more because he wishes they both could.
it's sweet, to know that george will miss him – that they'll miss each other – but it still puts a pit in dream's stomach.
he can't shake the bad feeling as he drives them to the airport, glancing at george in the rearview mirror every minute.
and although sapnap doesn't comment on it, dream is sure he can tell that something's up. it's not often that george is this quiet around them.
dream makes an effort to park the car as close to the entrance to domestic departures as he can, and he helps lift their suitcases from the trunk.
"thanks for driving us, dude," sapnap says, bags in hand on the sidewalk.
dream smiles, "of course. it's no problem."
sapnap spares a careful glance at george before turning back to dream.
"i'll uh," he gestures over his shoulder vaguely, "let you guys say goodbye or... whatever you need to do."
it's a little awkward to have to do this, but dream is grateful that sapnap understands.
he nods, "yeah. thanks, sap."
with one last glance at george, sapnap starts making his way toward the spinning doors.
and then there were two.
"george," dream says softly, his voice quiet now that they're alone.
he steps forward and gathers the boy in his arms, feeling him sink into the touch completely.
george's voice gets muffled in dream's sweatshirt, "i'm sorry."
"don't be," dream soothes, pressing a gentle hand to his lower back. "nothing to be sorry for."
george sighs, a little shaky, and dream's heart squeezes in his chest. it's instinctive when he tightens his arms around george's middle.
"i just don't understand why i'm getting so upset over this," george mumbles.
"well," dream muses. "i'm pretty sure i do. last time showed how much it can suck to be away from each other, right? and you obviously don't wanna go through that again, neither do i. it's perfectly logical."
george nods with a sniffle, pulling away a bit to pat his eyes dry with his sleeves.
"aw, baby," dream chuckles gently, lifting a hand to his cheek and wiping away some stray tears with his thumb.
george smiles despite himself. "i feel like i'm being an idiot," he says with a watery laugh.
dream shakes his head, smiling softly. "not an idiot," he says.
"just shows that you're happy here, you know? that we're happy together."
"yeah," george nods at him again, drying the last of his tears and taking a breath to collect himself. "yeah, no, you're right."
dream smirks – "i'm always right."
and it wasn't very funny but george laughs anyway, the tension easing from his features.
"i don't know about that," he says, and dream laughs too.
he rubs his hands down george's sides and leans in a little closer. "i'm gonna miss you," he says. "a lot."
george sighs and lets his head fall to the side sweetly. "i'm gonna miss you, too."
all it takes is a slight dip of his chin for dream to press their lips together. it feels long-awaited, both of them relaxing into it.
"call me when you land, okay?"
"i will," george promises quickly before kissing him again. "i love you," he mumbles when they pull away.
dream smiles, kind of missing him already. "i love you, too."
he could easily get lost in this moment; stare at george forever and then some– but sapnap is waiting.
so he squeezes george's hand, a gentle reminder that they can't stand here much longer.
"go," he says lightly. "you don't wanna miss your flight."
but when george looks at him, dream swears he can read his exact thoughts – but what if i do.
dream is not going to let that happen though, so he opts for pressing their lips together again, kissing away the uncertainty.
"it's only a couple weeks," he says. "we can do two weeks."
george smiles at him. "i guess you're right," he says, adding, "again."
"alright, have a safe flight, okay? and remember to call me right after– text me, call me, whatever."
"i will, i will," george reassures him.
"good."
george pecks his lips one last time, and then he's pulling away. dream supposes they've dragged this out long enough, no doubt to the annoyance of sapnap.
"okay, bye dream," george says, grabbing his suitcases.
dream smiles at him. "bye, george. i love you. and have fun, okay?"
"oh i will," george says jokingly as he starts walking away. "and i love you, too."
dream watches him join sapnap by the entrance who greets him with a (friendly) smack on the arm.
george just laughs, of course, turning around to look at dream as he does.
dream shakes his head at them, grinning so big his cheeks hurt.he thinks they'll be just fine.
