Chapter 57
It had been three days since Hadrian had disappeared and Daphne hasn't seen him since. He had sent her a message informing her that he needed some time alone and that she needed to focus on her OWLS. He wished her luck and told her that he was not ready to talk to anyone, not even his family, not now at least.
Of course, he needed time. Not just him, but the entirety of the Potter and Black families needed time. After all, they had lost the head of the houses and their grandparents at once. All the while, the threat of Voldemort still loomed over their heads.
~FLASHBACK~
Charlus Potter, Dorea Potter, Arcturus, and Melania Black were attending the 500th-year celebration of the founding of Pottersville. Charlus was here to recharge the wards as every Potter did every 10 years. This was a family celebration, however, James and Lily were busy straightening up Hogwarts before it opened for the coming year, and Hadrian and his friends were busy working with the elves to improve the Peverell Castle. Charlus had a bad feeling surrounding the whole affair, but nonetheless, he had performed his duty.
As soon as the thought flitted through his mind, loud blasts reached his ears from the opposite side of Pottersville. Potter guards rushed to see the cause of the blast and were met with Hans Gaultier leading hundreds of men inside the Ville, killing everyone in sight.
Charlus and many others joined the fight, but it was clear that they were outnumbered. The men whom they were fighting were no death eaters, they were Grindelwald's followers who had regrouped under Hans Gaulitier.
Charlus was facing all the previous commanders of Grindelwald's army. He needed to recharge the wards as soon as he could to halt the endless flow of men from entering the Ville. As he made his way to the runestone, he killed everyone that stood in his way, he placed his hand above the stone and turned it counter-clockwise. The runestone absorbed his blood, draining his magical reserves significantly until he stopped. While Charlus was engrossed in recharging the wards, Hans Gaulitier saw his opportunity. He rushed towards Charlus aiming to kill, but was intercepted by none other than Arcturus Black. His clothes were dripping with blood and his face was caked with a mix of sweat, blood, and dirt. He mocked Gaulitier for being a coward and attacking Charlus from behind. As they started to fight, other commanders joined Gaulitier while Arcturus was joined by Dorea and Melania. It was a bloody battle in which half of the commanders were killed and the remaining five were injured but still fighting. Eventually, they struck Dorea and Melania in the back and took their lives.
Enraged after seeing his wife and sister killed by Grindelwald's commanders, Arcturus attacked all the commanders alone and slaughtered them brutally. As he finished the last of the commanders, with his back turned, he was hit with a curse by Hans Gaulitier. There fell the undefeated master of Black arts, the black of blacks, Arcturus Black.
Charlus, finished and recovered from the ward, turned in time to see his best friend hit with a curse as his wife lay dead in front of him. Charlus Potter, filled with a mixture of rage and pain, unleashed the dragon within him. He slaughtered anyone in his sight as he headed toward Hans Gaultier with bloodshot eyes. As he faced Hans Gaulitier, he was surrounded by hundreds of Grindelwalds, now Gaulitier's, followers. Charlus Potter killed half the men surrounding him in one strike as he fired a dark spell at Gaulitier. Gaulitier raised his wand too late as the spell rocketed towards him, his hands and legs melted, causing him to drop his wand and fall to the ground. Screaming in pain, his followers hoisted him up and made their escape, however, a few commanders continued to surround Charlus. Charlus faced them with his head held high, he was cursed, stabbed in the back, and everything in between, but that did not stop Charlus from killing each one of them. After he slaughtered the last remaining commander, Charlus fell to the ground next to Dorea and placed her head on his lap. He smiled fondly as he held her hand and finally, it was the end of the 78th Head of the Potter Clan, The butcher of Leningrad, the greatest warrior of the Potters clan, and the most caring and loving grandfather.
Soon Hadrian and others arrived with the Potter's army marching behind them. After unlocking the wards, Hadrian spotted his grandmother and grandfather surrounded by the bodies of friends and enemies alike. He ran towards them, desperately holding onto the hope that they made it in time. He came to a stop, falling down on his knees when he saw them lifeless but with small smiles on their lips, like they were happy to have been there with each other until the end. Harry felt as if something broke, his heart ached as pain worse than Crucio could ever do, coursed through him. He cried from the depths of his soul as he nudged them, trying to wake them up like a little kid, but his effort was in vain. James pulled him in a hug as he cried. The Blacks were grief-stricken as they saw Arcturus and Melania laying dead in front of them. Rigel, standing tall, couldn't help the tears as they flowed down his face. The pain was evident in his eyes as his heart broke at the sight of his grandparent's cold and pale skin.
The funeral was performed soon after, first of Charlus and Dorea, then of Arcturus and Melania. Surprisingly, Hadrian was quiet during the funeral, as he stared at the lifeless body of his grandparents being cremated. After the funeral was over, Hadrian marched to Smith and ordered him to assemble the army. They were going to attack Voldemort and Hans Gaultier and rid them of the world. James didn't support the idea, they had already lost so many lives in the attack and had no intel on where Voldemort and Gaulitier bases were. He told Hadrian to be patient, but Hadrian was enveloped in rage and vanished. Everyone searched high and low for him, but they could not find him anywhere. Finally, when James tried to apparate to Peverel's castle he was denied entry. Suspecting that Hadrian was there, James summoned Toby, Hadrian's personal elf, who confirmed it and eventually vanished.
James and Sirius took Lordship of their respective houses, and James started to rebuild Pottersville, which was severely damaged in the attack. Set in the center of Pottersville, a statue of Charlus, Dorea, Arcturus, and Melania was placed, proclaiming them as the protectors who defended, and eventually gave their lives for Pottersville.
~FLASHBACK END~
Daphne, worried about Hadrian, tried to contact him in any way she could. But all of her efforts were in vain. All she could do was wait and see and deal with what would come as it did. She just wanted Harry to be happy and safe. She wanted him to have the peace that he coveted more than anything, but not at the expense of his life. She wanted his happiness to be with her and she would do everything she could to make that happen. She didn't think Harry would join her and their friends next week on the train to Hogwarts.
