The Treaty

It has been gathered, after years of unrest and divergence that we, as a nation, cannot simply live in this fashion anymore. Our views are too dissimilar, and we have many aspirations and goals for this life, which we have lost sight of amidst this war. In order to prevent further acts of disagreements, it has been decided that humans will be able to inhabit different planets of this solar system. To put it blatantly, we must refresh our notions and find some way to agree. This choice to colonize other planets has been seen as a suitable way to address the conflicts of this Earth that have been, needless to say, a while coming.

With the trend of rebellion in our lengthy world history, we knew someday it would come to this: a ruthless war where brothers fought against brothers, and comrades fought between comrades.

Therefore, a pact has been made. The leaders of this nation have agreed that changes are due. Half of the people on the Earth will migrate to the other planets in this Solar System, while the other half will stay on Earth...

-Treaty of Planetary Equilibrium, 2684

Under the Treaty of Planetary Equilibrium, 2684, colonies of people have been able to migrate around the universe after a devastating continental war. As a result of this conflict, resources were limited, numerous problems arose—such as starvation and overpopulation—and there was the insolvable problem of rising global temperatures. Humans took relief from these complications by taking shelter permanently on other planets, spanning from Mercury to Neptune. Of course, adaptations would have to be made in order for these Earth-dwellers to survive, such as oxygen controlled structures and the proper food for sustainability. With regard to the survival aspect of colonization, all migrants were be administered with a mandatory vaccine that would aid in adjustment to new atmospheres and gravity. This injection was effective, but as a result, the genetic makeup of the populace was altered, and the mutation varied across the board due to the diverse environments of each planet.

These people also needed some type of system or government to maintain control, as any new civilization does. It was up to them to choose how they were ruled. While Mercury was oppressed by a strict autocracy, choosing to be governed by one supreme individual, Venus was a complete democratic-republic, and the citizens were given the ability to vote for whoever they saw fit for the role of president. This pattern continued down the line of planets, and everyone had a role in this new society.

In addition, the matter of time would always be viewed from an Earthling standpoint. In other words, if a multi-planetary conference was to be held at 2:00 in the morning, the time being referred to should be in accordance with Earth's 24-hour clock, dependent on the time zone the call is being made from.

On each planet, similar to Earth, there were cities and towns, but there weren't continents or states. Each planet was seen as a colossal landmass, divided only by the different cities into sectors. Concerning resettlement policies, everyone was free to travel from planet to planet, via spacecraft or the Solar System Shuttle (SSS), as long as such travel was done legally. The same went for trade.

When Earth's leaders were asked for their thoughts on this new development, they had plenty to say, giving the warning that as Earthlings, there was an inherent desire to venture headfirst into the unknown, which would only lead to disaster and chaos. After all, such was part of the reason war even began in the first place.

"It is truly devastating to see this rift form between us," President Winstead, the U.S. President at the time, remarked.

Queen Valerie, the ruler of The United Kingdom of Britain agreed. "Yes. It will truly be a test of strength to see if a new start can erase the shadows of the past," she commented woefully. With that, the leaders left these new planet seeking individuals to their own—splitting humanity as everyone knew it.

Furthermore, technological advancements had been made, as new hologram machinery was introduced to the spectrum of many inventions that had been created on Earth, such as holoscreens, smartpods, and hypermonitors. These new findings would prove useful in the trek to seek new territory, as well as define each planet's role in culture.

The treaty was effective; there hadn't been a war in over 100 years. Life on the other planets wasn't so bad, it was serene and blissful. New discoveries had been made, and humans' eyes were opened to the fact that change isn't always a bad thing. Soon, that verdict was up for dispute. This is where our story begins, which takes us to 2933, the year that would really shake the Solar System to its core. The kidnapping of a certain baby would lead to a precarious path that no one in history would be able to change, and no treaty could fix the destruction this action would leave in its wake.
