Zero's POV

I arrive home after School to find Ruby being the golden girl, on her laptop studying her university papers.

"Oh, Daddy can I join Team Dark?"

"Oh, Daddy Can I have air shoes?"

Oh Daddy can I work for GUN?"

These were the words she forever repeated to her father. I knew from a young age I was adopted, I was a jackal for crying out loud. Being a Jackal in a school full of GUN workers' children made me an outcast. My long bushy tail and huge ears made me stand out, I so hated it. The lone jackal I had become. At least Rouge was always there for me though, she seemed to treat me like her own, but when I was 4 years old Rouge moved out of Team Dark HQ to live with her husband Knuckles. Luckily, she does return to HQ nearly every day since she works for Team Dark, while her husbands remain on the island guarding the master Emerald and looking after their 4-year-old daughter Topaz.

"Zero is everything alright?" Rouge asked as I passed her on my way to my room.

"School sucks," I mumbled

"Tell me about it." She responded, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"I just want to stay home, school is pointless for a jackal," I muttered, walking to my bedroom door.

"Would you like to stay Saturday night on angel island with me?" I will help you with your studies?" She suggested.

"Yes, thank you Rouge I will." I accepted her offer, wanting some time away from my family.

"See you then." She says smiling, before leaving HQ for the day.

Timeskip skip.

I was now sitting at the dinner table with my family. Right now I wanted a mobile phone like all the other kids in my class. But Shadow was protected and had a no phone, no social media or talking to strangers online rule. our laptops were monitored at all times, we never got away with anything because of Shadow's military spyware he had access to. One time Shadow discovered that I was in a chatroom, so he confiscated my laptop for a month and blocked the site. Something about trauma from his past made him very protective of us both, but who cares it's damn past get over it.

"Daddy I got an A+ on my university level 6 paper today," Ruby announced, smiling at her father.

"Well done, I'm so proud of you. Now Zero how was school?" Shadow added, looking directly at me.

"It sucks, I'm so dumb," I reply, taking a bite of steak.

"Not a good attitude." My mum responded.

"Son, you need to just study then one day you can join GUN like me," Shadow says, trying to reassure me.

"You're not my dad! I don't want to be like you, I will find my purpose!" I growled, storming up from the dinner table and heading to my room.

A few minutes later I hear a knock on my bedroom door, while I read a Chao in Space comic.

"Go away!" I growled.

"Can I talk with you?" I heard Shadow ask.

"No!" I yelled, punching my pillow.

"I am your father, I've raised you from a toddler, I love you and Ruby equally." He tried to reassure me.

"My dad is a jackal, who will understand," I muttered, hearing him walk away from my door.

After I said that sentence I knew I needed to find out about my real father. Please let him be alive, only he will understand me.
