New Boy

It has been a few days since I last seen Elvis and I have decided that it is for the best if I pull back from him. I know it will be difficult but no more difficult than having feelings for someone who only sees you as a friend. I'm still going to be his friend but I'm just going to distance myself from him and try to get some control on my emotions.

It's been a slow day at the cafe and I find myself with nothing to do when you see a gentleman walk in and you recognise him from when you were at school.

"It's Holly isn't it," he asks his face a picture of confusion

"Hello Chad" I reply shyly

Chad was the school bully and I always hated him. He was forever pulling the ribbons out of my hair or making fun of my pauper clothes as he called them. He was always so cruel to me and it made my school years so much harder.

"So this is how you spending your time since school? " he asks dryly.

"yes it's a job and it's never wise to say no to work. What is it you do now? "

"I'm a lawyer.  Well, I'm in law school. "

My face must show how shocked I am as Chad bursts out laughing.

"I know Holly im as shocked as you are that I've gone back to school but if I want the job then I need the training. "

There was something I found quite appealing about Chad. He wasn't as handsome as Elvis obviously but he was good-looking with his dirty blond hair and blue eyes and pale complexion.

"That's very wise of you Chad.  I'm impressed"

Chad chuckled and you think that he's kinda cute with his little giggle.

"well I couldn't be the jerk I was in school forever and I know I was horrible to you and I'm sorry"

"ok, this is all very strange. I never once believed that the boy who called me horrible holly would be apologizing to me."

"I can't believe I used to call you that as there is nothing horrible about you."

Chad's eyes analyze my body while he bites his lip and I can't help but blush. My heart is telling me that Chad isn't what it wants but my head says that it will be a good distraction.

"Well thank you and I accept your apology. I know I wasn't the most popular or appealing girl in school so I understand."

I hear the door of the cafe open and see Elvis and June and some of the boys walk in just as Chad began talking to me again.

"Are you crazy you were crazy hot then and you're so sexy now" he teases.

Elvis had heard what Chad had said to me as I saw him clench his jaw while his eyes never left me.

"oh gee Chad you are crazy" I blush

" So are you going steady with anyone?"

Suddenly I see Elvis rush towards me and puts his arm around me pulling me close to him.  There are the damn butterflies again. When will Elvis stop making me feel excited?

"hiya baby," Elvis says kissing me on the side of my mouth

"wait are you going out with Elvis?" Chad asks confused.

"yes, she is. Holly is my girl."

I look at Elvis strangely while June marches over to where we are.

"what do you mean Holly's your girl when im your girlfriend" she shouts.

"June just leave it?"  Elvis demands

"so you have 2 girls Elvis. Who would have thought you would turn into such a player" Chad laughs

Elvis holds me tighter to him and honestly I have no clue what is happening. Why is Elvis acting this way?

"ok, what is happening? Elvis, I'm not your girl. June is. I'm just a friend"

Elvis sighs and pulls his arms away from me.

"ok, I don't know what's going on here. But Holly do you fancy going out with me this Sunday? Maybe go to a movie?" Chad asks looking at me like a begging puppy dog.

"oh well yes, I would like that."  I blush

"well, that's a date then. Where should I pick you up?"

I felt my whole body tense up and my hands became sweaty and Elvis saw it. "

"pick her up at autobon drive at the house with the musical notes on the fence. " Elvis said threw gritted teeth.

"ok I'll see you then at about 6"

" I look forward to it"

"so do I baby" he moans while biting his lip

Chad turns and leaves the cafe making everyone's attention turn to Elvis.

"What was that about? " I ask Elvis.

"what do you mean? "

"the whole she's my girl thing."

" I was just protecting you. "

" from what a handsome man asking her out on a date? " June asks

"so you think he's handsome?" Elvis asks her

"well not as handsome as you are" she giggles

"Well I'm glad to hear that." he laughs while lifting her and spinning June around.

This is why I think I need someone because I want someone to shower me with attention and sweetness as Elvis does to June. I stand looking at my feet feeling awkward.

"Don't you remember Chad from school Holly? " Elvis asks bringing his attention back to me.

"of course I do"

"then you know that he's a bully. "

"I know he was a bully as he bullied me"

When I say this I see anger in Elvis's face

"then why agree to go on a date with him? "

"because have you thought that maybe I need someone"

"you have me," Elvis said innocently

" I mean to have someone the way you have June"

"yeah but you deserve so much better than that jerk"

"People can change and I don't have anyone beating down my door to go out with me. I'm not gorgeous like June. I don't have options. "

"your beautiful honey and you don't need to settle for someone. You never know who has their eyes on you. " Elvis said holding my hand.

"I wish that was true but the truth is I need someone. I want to feel wanted and feel pretty and to get to finally feel what it's like to be on a date. "

"you have never been on a date? " June asks.

"no ma'am. I've been asked but I'm so shy that the thought of going on dates makes me uncomfortable. "

Elvis looks at me shocked.

"Well, sweetie im glad that you have plucked up the courage to say yes to that handsome young man. " June added making Elvis clench his jaw again.

"thank you I'm kind of excited you know" I giggle

"June we gotta go I need to be back to rehearsal," he says grabbing June's arm and dragging her outside without even saying goodbye..
