Hi, I'm Monyse Peterson , just a young black girl having to live through colorism. It wasn't easy living in the city Louisiana having to ride in the back of your parents car watching your own kind getting beat like they was animals.. in my head it was time for a change and I knew one day I would make that change , I'm Monyse Peterson and this is my story.
Every morning my parents would always make sure they reminded me everyday before school to keep my mouth closed. I didn't understand why I had to keep my mouth closed but all they knew If I did open my mouth I was going to end up in a bad situation with any white person in Louisiana because of all the beating and harsh things my people as a whole was going through.
As I road the bus all I could think about was my tap dancing lessons I had after school, my parents wasn't rich but they worked hard to make sure they kept me occupied and doing something proactive with my future career I wanted to do in my life and that's something I'll never forget. As I look over while thinking to myself my older sister Delphene was writing in a private journal about this one boy she always dream of being with and me being nosey I would always look at what she was writing but she would close it and pluck me on my head saying "mind the business that pays you little girl" as she rolled her eyes.
Me and Delphene didn't get long well but she was my sister and we always had each other back no matter what.
