My mother use to worked downtown in Louisiana at mr. Fargo's sit and dine in food spot , where you could express your singing talents and acts if you were pursuing a drama type of career , I sometimes go down there to perform my tap dancing and help mr. Fargo out because 72 year old him ain't got it like he use to so I love helping him.
My Mother was a waitress and sometimes she even cooked at mr. Fargo's but one night she walked in mr. Fargos on her day off with a new look my mother hair was so beautiful , long and straight going down her back from her sisters helping her relax it.. As my mother walked in everybody looked at her with their mouths dropped mr. Fargo came over and said "don't you look stunning tonight" as she thanked him chuckling , he told her "tonight's the night my girl , you should get up on stage and sing for us" My mother said "who said I could sing?" Mr. Fargo looked in her eyes with a straight face and said "it's something about your glow , come now give us a show to talk about all week from now" she let out a deep breath and walked up on stage.
My mother not knowing her personal song she wrote called "Mrs understood" would be a major success for our black community and even for the white community but they would never display that to us up and close, they were too "ashamed". My mother sung her lungs out with passionate and inspiring voice with her signature pink long tight dress with a beautiful bow in the chest area and long silky gloves that's still in her closet til this day as she sing that night. After her performance everybody gave her a cheerful and lovely claps as she looked off into the audience seeing this good looking yellow fella staring into her eyes clapping along with everybody else. My mother looked nervous as he walked towards her saying "you did good out there tonight" she said "thank you" as he said "I know what's it like being misunderstood" as he smiled and she said "what makes you think you could get me so fast" he said "I guess we both misunderstood baby" and that was the night my mom and dad fell in love at first sight.
After that night my mom and dad became an item everyone knew who they were when they walked the red carpet with one another , my dad was a jazz player while my mom was the lead singer and they formed a group called ruby and the cool jamz where it was my dad , her and two other men who played the instruments named "frank and Louie" who played the drums and instruments with my father as my mother sang, they went to any city they could be booked at and got payed 25 dollars a night every place they went . Misunderstood would go platinum at jets jazz studios in new York my mom would go on to record two unforgettable albums that had 55 songs on them each making that a 110 songs all together. But after years went by my mom would go on to have two kids which was my sister Delphene and me while she became a house wife still earning her royalties checks every month which kept the house hold stable and good for us.
