"Let's start with the basics." the wizard says in a heavy accent, sitting down in a chair. "My name is Angela, and I'm on the Magic Council. What are your names?"
"I'm Octopus."
"Piranha."
"Whale."
"Tuna."
"Call me Axolotl, or Ax for short."
"My name is Emmy."
"I'm Aurora."
"Any relation to Aritch?" Angela says.
"Yeah. I'm his and Julia's daughter."
"Good bloodline. Now, what magic do you practice, Aurora?"
"We're all Waves except for Emmy, who's a Leaf. Also, I'd just begun shadow magic training."
"Again, good. Do you seven have magical objects?"
"Well, we have pens and notebooks." Ax says.
"Nothing else other than that?"
"Nope."
"Well, we need to find you guys something, then! Also, some robes, shoes and maybe hats might be nice. I can see that all of you only have one pair."
We exit the tree. I hug my mother one last time, then quickly run after them. Going into the forest, I can look at it more clearly. Most look like houses, but, in a ring surrounding the largest tree, there are little shops, their names on little wooden signs hanging above the entrances. We enter one called "Staffs, Crystals and other Magical Objects".
It is lit with the same floating globes. All over, staffs are leaning against walls, wands are sitting on shelves, and crystal balls are next to them. There is also a rack of books on how to use your magic object.
The man sitting behind the counter is the same one that led us into the city. He waves, and looks at a book he's reading.
"Find whatever you want." Angela says, gesturing around the room. "Bring it to me, and I will see if it's appropriate. You can look at the guide over there if you can't choose." she points to a booklet in a corner, sitting on a chair.
The other six scatter around the room, but I go to the booklet. I don't have any idea what to choose. I flip to the first page. It talks about how a magical object, when used by the wizard, makes the wizard much more powerful. There are little tabs marking the sections. I go to "familiars".
A magical object exactly doubles your magical ability. A spell can be put on your familiar, however, to put that portion of magic in it. You have to work on spells as a team. The partners draw energy from each other, constantly trading magical energy with each other through a sort of tether. A side effect is that you two can, by focusing and intertwining each other's minds, create one twice as powerful being, and reverse the effect by separating minds again.
