With Zayn encouraging him to finally go for it Harry tried to find the courage to ask Louis out on a date. It was a delicate situation. He didn't actually know if Louis was into guys or not. He thought that his gaydar was working because there was definitely a lot of flirting going on but he couldn't be 100 percent sure and that made him nervous. He at least knew that Louis was single.

Secondly, they were coworkers. Technically Louis kind of was his boss, right? If things went sideways it could affect their ability to work together. Perhaps that was the reason Louis hadn't asked him out? Well, he had grown fond of the guy with the Beatles' hair due, sparkling blue eyes, and sassy humor. Louis was intelligent and funny and just a great person to sit around and admire what he was like.

They hadn't done any progress in the case and Harry was starting to feel pretty useless. They were paying him to break the ciphers and he had nothing to show for. He aired his concerns to Louis who immediately protested.
"I can't do this without you, Harry! You're a natural at it. We're gonna bring this fucker down, together!"

It was looking pretty dark. The Zodiac had stopped communicating. Liam looked into cases, old and new ones, trying to find a pattern but so far he only suspected a few of them being the work of the Zodiac Killer but without evidence, his hands were tied.

After a long day at work, Harry finally addressed the thing between him and Louis. They were getting ready to go home when he took a deep breath and made a proposition.
"Uhm, Louis?"

"Yeah?" Louis asked and turned around to face him.

"Would you like to eat dinner with me? Like, at a restaurant?" Harry asked nervously and held his breath waiting for Louis' response. Maybe he should have clarified that he was trying to ask him out on a date?

Louis smiled.
"Absolutely. Now, or do you need time to get ready? Are we talking about something fancy or casual? Do I have to change?"

"Oh, I haven't thought that far. What kind of food do you like?" Harry stressed. He had been so focused on asking him out that he hadn't actually made a plan.

"I'm starving. How about we just grab a burger this time?" Louis suggested.

Harry liked the sound of that. He was also really hungry and the 'this time' made him hopeful.
"Sure."

They walked to a burger joint nearby and placed their orders before they found a table. As soon as the food arrived they dug in. Louis talked about what he missed about England. They were both a bit homesick.
"I'm definitely moving back home when I want to settle down." Harry said thoughtfully.

"Yeah. Wanna be close to the family. I miss me mum like crazy." Louis agreed.

"Why did you move to the States?" Harry wondered.

"FBI recruited me." Louis shrugged as if it was a normal thing.

"Isn't that pretty unusual? You know, recruiting from a whole different country?" Harry questioned.

"Well, I'm special." Louis smirked. He said it ironically but Harry knew he was right about that.

They continued to eat. Louis looked up.
"So just to be clear, is this a date?"

"That was my intention but it doesn't have to be if you're not into that." Harry said uncomfortably.

Louis gave him a once-over and smiled.
"I'm definitely into that."

Harry returned the smile. He has been right. That was a relief. Things could have become really awkward if he had interpreted the signals wrong.
"Cool."

They parted ways after dinner and Harry was a ball of sunshine when he came home to his shared apartment. Zayn looked up from the kitchen table.
"You asked him out?"

"Yeah! We went for burgers." Harry smiled happily.

"It's a start." Zayn grinned.

Zayn went to work an hour later. They didn't see much of each other nowadays. Especially not since Zayn got a job as a security guard at a museum and mostly worked the graveyard shift since it gave him a better salary.

Harry took a shower and dressed in a pair of pajama bottoms since he was planning on making it an early night. A knock on the door surprised him. He never had people over.

He opened the door to find an upset Louis waving a piece of paper in his hand.
"Niall just got this."

Harry let him in.
"Another letter from the Zodiac Killer?"

"He's fucking taunting us! Look at the first part!" Louis said and handed it over.

Harry looked.

He looked up at Louis

He looked up at Louis.
"This is impossible to solve. There are not enough letters."

"I know! I fucking know, and I hate it! It's there, right in front of us. Crap!" Louis shouted angrily.

Harry didn't know how it happened. They were just standing there staring at each other and the next second they were kissing. They crashed into each other and it was like someone had lit a power cage. All the frustration in the last couple of months manifested in pure passion.
"I need you to fuck me. Can you do that?" Louis asked.

"Definitely." Harry replied and pulled him toward his bedroom.

They quickly got naked. Harry grabbed a bottle of lube from the top drawer of his nightstand. It was a short foreplay but Harry made sure that Louis was open enough to be able to take him. He lubed his cock and pushed inside.

There was no finesse behind it. Just two people needing to blow off some steam, a common wish to forget everything around them for a moment and they succeeded.

Their bodies collided. They were gripping each other, feeling each other out while Harry pounded Louis into the mattress. He changed the angle and found Louis' prostate, making him cry out loud.

They both came hard and Harry fucked them through their highs before he pulled out and threw himself next to Louis.
"I needed that. Thanks." Louis panted.

"Me too." Harry replied, short of breath.

They turned their heads to look at each other and giggled. Louis leaned over Harry and kissed him.
