I woke up, all so suddenly, hyperventilating even, from a nightmare. I can only recall a few events, I was on a cliff and on the other side was Kasumi. She was backing up, and abruptly the cliff shattered making her fall down to her death into the deep, wide canyon.

As I rush up from bed, I, in a blink of an eye, went supersonic putting on my uniform. It felt all too real, what I saw. I collected all my school stuff, and headed out the door. It didn't take me long to arrive at Nagano Beach, but suddenly an eye blinding light took over the sky. The light was as bright as when a light bulb is right next to your face blinding you for the next 10 seconds. But imagine if this light was as wide as the entire stratosphere. Bright, isn't it? Quietly a familiar voice startled me causing me to flinch entirely.
"Hey Manami, you got here pretty early." She noticed how she frightened me and covered her face, hiding her small, but cute, laughter.
"Y-Yeah, Good morning. Wait, didn't you see that light?" I turned around to point to the source, but it seems as if the light just vanished out of nowhere.
"That? Don't worry, that happens when I use my magic to transform into my human legs."
"O- Oh, I have always thought that mermaids have to wait until their tail is dry before they can transform." I said, dumbfounded.
"Well, that is another way but it literally takes forever for our tail to dry." She made an exhausting face gesture.
"So we just magically transform. Though, it can be inconvenient due to overuse." I looked at her, confused, and then noticed, it was slight but it seemed that she looked a bit exhausted.
"What do you mean, Kasumi?"
"Well, if you use your mermaid power repeatedly for a while without a proper recharge, it has been proven to shorten a mermaid's lifespan vigorously." My heart choked, when she said that, even I took a step back. I was shocked, thinking that every time she comes out the water and transforms just to see me quicker, her life is cut from her being. There had to be a way to help stop the reducing process of her lifespan!
"Is there any way to stop this process Kasumi or any way to recharge your power?!" She did not say anything; she stood there staring at the ground. She seemed too afraid to reveal the answer.
"Onegai,* Kasumi, answer me." (*Please) I took her now shaking hands, and caressed them reassuring her that I care about her and that she is safe. She looked at me, and gazed at me. She suddenly yanked my arm playfully, making me tumble and fall into her waiting arms as she caught me. She softly pecked me a kiss on my cheek.
"We can worry about that later but now we have to go to school." She looked at me with a smile that I have never witnessed her make. Many possibilities scrolled through my ever endless imagination to think what was behind this. Worriment? Embarrassment? Lack of interest? Perhaps she afraid, but that smile was not genuine. No, it was a, fake intent of a smile. I look at her again with a worried expression.
"Daijoubu da, Manami, mondai nai*. I promise." She continues walking the way to school, without a trace of slight interest of a chance that something bad could happen. I outwardly sigh. (*Don't worry, Manumi, I'm fine.)
"If you are planning to just drop this Kasumi, then kiss me." She turned her head towards me; she bit her lip, tempted.
"We are going to be late for school, Manami." With that she tangled her hand with mine as she led me to school. I stopped and forced her to stop as well.
"Kasumi, I - I love you so much, and it literally kills me to even think of anything happening to you, making you be separated from me." Kasumi looked at me with a sad gaze and approached me with ease.
"Manami, I love you more than I love anything in the Universe, and I would, no, WILL do anything to make you feel happy. To make US happy." She put her arms around my back engulfing me with her warmth, heating my body from the chill of the cool fall breeze. I could faintly hear a soft whisper in my ear.
"Manami, I love you." Tears rolled from my now watery eyes, down to the sidewalk.
"Yes, Kasumi, I love you too." With that, she softly kissed me, as if dissolving away the worry in my heart.

All day at school, I spaced out on the entire lesson. I couldn't help but notice that Kasumi also did the same but with a disturbed or worried face. In my mind I tried relaying possibilities of causes in my head. But none could perfectly describe her expressions.
