Bluestar hung her head low, a moan escaping her. I closed my eyes, knowing this was only the beginning.
A rustle of ferns marked another cat's approach. My ears pricked up, and I readied myself to spring. As a dark tabby pulled another cat's body into the camp, I gasped lightly. Being a demon, I could see into his soul. It was full of remorse and ambition. It was suffocating the Starclan cat within him, turning it's pelt dark.
A shocked ripple of meows echoed through the clan. Greypaw dropped in a crouch nearby, his grief- scent becoming powerful as others felt the same.
Stupid cats, I thought, and bounded out of the camp. I might as well hunt for the clan, since the others obviously won't do it. Too caught up in sadness.
I stepped into the shadows of the trees and called the darkness to cover me. Now I was only darkness, my red eyes faded and distilled. Letting my claws out, I climbed the tree I was shadowed by, deep claw-marks etched into the bark. Another one of my skills as a demon.
The wind that was blowing made the tree extremely unstable. The tree branch wobbled. A bird was torn from a nearby branch and was flailing uselessly in the air. I took I paw off of the branch and snagged the bird before jumping to the ground.
The little sparrow was chirping loudly, scared beyond it's life. I looked down in it pitifully. Then the scent of soul wafted into my nose. My eyes gleamed pink, darkness enveloping me. My true demojn form was coming out. and the forest knew it.
The forest went silent. I licked the bird on it's forehead, sucking it's puny soul into me. I sat down on the ground, my pink eyes fading and the shadows slightly disperseing.
I had never realized how hungry I was for a soul. I sighed. I would have to watch myself in front of the other cats. But if i could make a contract.....mmh.
I grasped my kill in my jaws and covered it in dirt for later. I slinked into the shadows again, but right when I was about to push my way through some ferns a patrol of cats came through. Runningwind was at the head, Tigerclaw behind him, and Sandpaw and Greypaw taking up the rear.
"Where did Shadowpaw go?" Greypaw asked Runningwind.
"If we knew, we wouldn't be wandering around aimlessly trying to pick up a scent!" Tigerclaw growled at Greypaw. Greypaw shrunk in the dark tabby's gaze. They passed me by, heading towards the camp. I was really close to camp too, just a couple paw lengths away.
I slunk away deeper into the forest to hunt, the bird'a chirping hypnotizing me. I crouched in the shadows, being very still. I hunted for a while in a deep place of the forest, then no light enters and shadows are at your every step.
Another cat padded into the clearing, it's eyes widening in shock as my pink eyes, demonic power ebbing though them.
"Shadowpaw!" It yowled, and I let my eyes become normal. The trees became thinner, the shadows less dense.
"Wha-" I meow, my voice slightly honeyed. My eyes flick from side to side. My eyes were still slightly pink when I turned to stare at the intruder. It was Whitestorm.
I bowed my head in fake remorse of my deeds. I walked over under a tree and dragged all my prey out, the shadows delivering it to me. Rocks became to form around me, and snakes were resting on their edges.
"I went hunting during Redtail's Burial Ceremony. I thought it was ok." I meowed, looking straight at Whitestorm. He was not amused.
"Come on, Shadowpaw. I will report this to Bluestar and you can talk to Runningwind about this." He meowed before stalking off. I easily followed him.
I walked into camp, prey laden in my jaws. Runningwind sprinted over to me, worried. I placed the prey in the Fresh-kill pile and looked up to him.
"Yes Runningwind?" I asked scathingly, my tail slightly puffed.
"You should not of been catching prey during Redtail's mourning. And you should of especially not of left camp without telling any-cat. You could of been killed!" he hissed, his ears flattening.
"I diden't get killed, but you obviously don't understand that!" I growled, getting slightly angry. Newborn kittens who have lived not even a fraction of my time should not speak to me this way!
"I am your mentor. You can be responsible for the elders for today and tomorrow. If you sneak out again, your punishment will be worse." Runningwing growled, stalking into the warriors den. I sighed and walked over to the Elder's den.
"Hello!" i mewed cheerily. "Do you need anything?"
"Yes" one of the elders rasped. "if you could bring us some prey, that would be great."
I padded out of their den and brought them a rabbit and plump pigeon. The elders meowed their gratitude. I sighed in relief, sleep attacking my body. i staggered over to the warrior's den and curled up in a corner, shadows covering my body and a dream awakening.
