You wake up in the middle of the night. You curl up under your blanket, trying to recall as much as you can from your dream.
***
"Kill, Draco," said a man under a black hood, whose face you couldn't see. He lifted his index finger and pointed at you, then turned to Draco, who was standing beside him with his wand at the ready.
He nodded solemnly. "Yes, my Lord." he said to the mysterious man.
When the boy laid eyes on you, the scenery changed you felt dizzy. The gloomy night sky got even darker when all the stars disappeared. The ground, which was covered with green grass just a second ago had now turned into sand. Green trees turned into cacti as strong winds came. The place looked like a desert, and it was getting colder.
You pulled yourself to your height and took a few steps backwards, away from Draco and his Lord while quickly searching for your wand in all of your robes' pockets. You knew you wouldn't find it, and you were right. There was no wand to save your life whatsoever. But you couldn't just let him kill you this easily.
"This is unfair!" you exclaim,"Hand a wand over, let us duel!" you demand, your voice shaking slightly because of the cold and the fear of death growing within you.
"Life's not fair!" Draco returned with a smirk on his hateful face, taking some steps forwards to approach you. Oh you almost forgot, he was Malfoy now,"You told me that, didn't you? You were right, life is never fair for us!" he shouted and his eyes flickered the way they did when you two were arguing earlier. However, this was a different kind of flickering: last time, you saw evil in his eyes when they flickered. This time, they turned from evil to goodness and sympathy. Malfoy also seemed to realise that, so he blinked hastily.
"You will not kill me," you shook your head and backed off, trying to remain calm,"I know you will not kill me."
"And what makes you think that?" he spat.
"Because I know you well. You've been acting strange but it's not you doing all these psychotic things. I heard that voice telling me it's not you." you explained, remaining as calm as your frightened soul allowed,"I dare you to look into my eyes and tell me you've been doing this."
That was when the unexpected happened. He looked straight into your eyes and said "I've been doing this." Loudly and clearly,"It's always been me. It's been me all along." he added, smirking.
"You're just possessed!" you exclaimed, backing away. "You are not evil, Draco Malfoy!" you weren't quite sure how to get it through his head, but you wanted to try your best, for the sake of your life. And his too, maybe.
"I am!" Malfoy shouted, gritting his teeth. But you could feel it, you could feel the evil in his eyes fading...
"If you were truly evil, you would have killed me by now!" you defended.
"I haven't, because you have been holding me up with all your nonsense!" he protested, clutching his wand more tightly, though you knew his hands were shaking and his lips were quivering.
"I haven't been holding you up, I'm not that good with words to hold you up and I know that. I've been lucky because there's still goodness in you. It's your goodness what's been keeping you from cursing me to death." you explained, then paused for a moment to gain enough courage to continue,"Voldemort." you managed to say the Dark Lord's name without hesitating or messing up mid-way through, which made your lips curled into a satisfying smile. Even though this was just a dream, you still did what people thought only Harry Potter could do.
"If you want to take him away from me with your curses and potions and spells, let me tell you, you can't. Don't think of trying any harder, it's solid you can never do that." you said, looking directly at the darkness under the hood of the mysterious man next to Malfoy (or was it Draco to you now?), where his face was supposed to be,"Draco Malfoy, along with everyone else, has both light and darkness inside of him. But his bright side has won, and it's been winning for a long time.
"If you think you can strengthen his evil side, you are wrong. Don't you see how loosely he's holding his wand now? Don't you see his eyes flickering when I speak to him? Don't you see how hesitant he is to curse me? His bright side is fighting whatever you used to make him turn against me. You don't know love, you don't know what it can do. You use him, but you've never loved him, is that correct?" you paused for the man to do something. He stayed still so you continued.
"I love Draco Malfoy. And I believe..." you turned to Draco, whose eyes were now gleaming with tears. He nodded,"He loves me as well. We have promised to hold each other back if there's still hope. Look what I'm doing now. I am trying to hold him back, yes, but most importantly, Draco is trying to keep himself from being the person you want him to be, which has been saving my life so far. We are both keeping our promises, we are both doing the thing you and your followers never do.
"If you want me dead, go ahead. Kill me. But Draco is not a murderer, and I don't want to be the reason why he turns into one. I know he doesn't want to kill me. Maybe he'll kill a person, or even people someday, but he's not killing anyone today, and I will never let him be the one to kill me." you stopped and turned to Draco once again.
"Hey," you said,"Let's go."
You scolded the man under the hood one last time then ran toward Draco at top speed. You Disapparated the moment your hands touched.
***
You lay awake, wondering why Voldemort decided to let both of you go like that. The man had to be Voldemort, but why didn't he do anything? Why did he let them flee so easily?
The last time you had a dream about Draco being ordered to kill you, Draco chose to kill himself but you disarmed him and woke up. This time, you didn't have a wand, no curse was used and Voldemort merely let go of you after a long emotional speech you made.
The question is, why?
You don't even feel angry at Draco anymore. Yes, it was just a dream, but that dream was so powerful that it changed the way you look at Draco now. You don't want to call him by his last name anymore, you just want to talk to him right now and make up, maybe even give him a big hug, so everything will be back to normal again.
Draco was just possessed tonight. Something went wrong tonight. Someone cursed him or poisoned him tonight. Other than that, he's still Draco, your best friend who you love and loves you back.
But does that make him something more than a best friend to you...?
You sit up and keep thinking till the sun rises.
But no good, you're still confused.
