Pip the penguin stood nervously inside his clothing closet. Still in his snowflake-patterned pajamas, he reached up for his light blue work uniform as his flamingo friend outside the door waited for him to change.
"My cheeks still feel so warm..." the little penguin touched his flipper to his blushing face. His friend, Freddy, had called him cute quite a few times this morning, and it made the penguin feel all funny. His face was blushing so much. He didn't quite get what was going on...
The pink flamingo wasn't sure what was taking Pip so long, "Everything okay in there, Pipster?"
Pip snapped out of it. "Oh! Sorry. Yeah! I think..." He fumbled around with his outfit as he thought, "Other people have called me cute or handsome before... why is it so weird when Freddy does it?" Did he feel embarrassed? Did he enjoy it? He just knew it felt a little tense and confusing, and made him clam up!
Pip opened up the closet door, his questions still weighing on his mind.
"Awwwww, Pip! You're still all blushy-wushy~" Freddy the flamingo teased his short little buddy playfully. This just made Pip turn even more red!
"Freddyyyyy..." Pip's face scrunched up a bit, eyes closed. "I... um..."
"Hmmm~?" Freddy smiled down at his pal, the tall flamingo leaning closely so they could be face-to-face, "You alright, Pip?"
Pip gulped, "I... I think it feels weird... when you call me those things, and I don't get why."
Freddy's eyes widened, "It feels weird?"
Pip nodded slowly, "Yeah, I think that's the word... I dunno... but it feels different."
Freddy gasped, worried about his little buddy! "Oh! Pip! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make you feel weird!" His tall legs stepped up and down in place, "I won't do it anymore if you don't like it, I was just having fun, I'm sorry."
For some reason, Pip... almost felt sad hearing that? In a way, being called cute was nice! If Freddy decided not to call him cute anymore... well, that could be okay, and he wouldn't feel weird anymore... but, it wasn't really a "bad" weird feeling, was it? He might miss being called cute, now that he thought about it.
"Umm..." Pip sounded a little shy, "Well, I don't know if you need to... not call me cute..." His flipper touched the tip of his beak, feeling a little confused. "It's kind of nice when you do? Like... a good weird?"
Freddy also started feeling confused... "Oh? So... you... do want me to call you cute? Or... don't you?" He laughed, he just wanted whatever was best for Pip! "Or would you rather me call you adora-wor-able instead? You just look so sweet all blushy-wushy!"
Pip's face lit up even more! Adorable? Blushy-wushy? Hearing so many nice things about himself just made the penguin all giggly... maybe it was just how funny Freddy sounded with all his baby talk?
"D'awww..." Freddy nodded, "I guess any of those words make you all blushy, huh? Well, I don't want you feeling weird all the time! Maybe... maybe I'll just call you that stuff once in a while? I wouldn't want you to feel all weird and distracted all the time!"
Pip looked up at Freddy with his big blue eyes, nodding gently. "Yeah... I think I can handle being called cute once in a while... that's okay! Heh heh, I just... guess I get all flustered if it's all at once!"
Freddy lowered his eyelids. "Oh, I flustered you? Hehe! Oops..." He gently opened his large pink-and-purple flamingo wings, "It's hard not to mention how cute you are, but, I'll try not to over-do it. Whatever makes my little buddy happy! That's all I care about~"
With that, Freddy crouched down and wrapped Pip up in a big, feathery hug. He kept the little penguin up against his chest as Pip hugged him back. Their parents both taught them how hugs were healthy, important, and a good way to show others you care! And since their job would be to deliver babies, both males knew it was good to be caring, cuddly, and affectionate when they needed to be.
Pip smiled in Freddy's wings, "Thanks Fredamingo, I want you to be happy too." His penguin tail wiggled behind him happily.
Freddy looked down softly at his little birdy buddy before closing his eyes. As the two of them hugged it out, a large pelican gently opened the door to remind the pair that their training was about to begin! But... seeing them hug each other all sweet and caring, she closed the door back up, and let the two have their little moment together. "They're both so cute..." she thought to herself as she walked down the hallway, knowing Pip and Freddy would make a great team.
