Then the doors burst open and their was Mrs. Gable, Bethany's mom. She looked sick and worried. My friend jumped up and gave her a quick hug.
"I'm really sorry mom," she said.
"I know," Mrs.Gable replied, trying to understand her daughter" it was just a--mistake,".
Bethany's mom turned my way. "What about you? Where's you're dad?" She empathetically said.
I put on my worried face and said "I don't know. I got a bad feeling he's not gonna come and get me..."
"Why would he do that?"she asked me.
"I don't know," I blankly answered. She didn't answer, only a long look.
It was silent for a while and I started to feel a bit awkward until another person popped open the door. It was a cop. What did he want? The police officer took out a remote control from his pocket, and pointed it towards the top corner of the room. Some noise streamed out. I looked toward where he pointed, it was a TV. How could I have missed THAT.
Well, i looked up to see the news reporters talking. A man with a formal outfit, brown hair, and green eyes said:
"Well Nancy, this is quite a story! One of the Twin Towers have been hit by a plane,"
"Yes it is. Lets take a look at it down in downtown New York," the "Nancy" lady to his left said.
There was then an image of the Towers. One was on fire and the other was collapsing AND on fire. Smoke was everywhere ,and you could make out plane pieces falling from the sky. And.....uhh, I shuddered, dead bodies falling too.
I realized that I could probably see downtown from this jail so I took a chair, slid it over, propped it against the wall, and peered out the little window. What a sight it was. You could see a tremendous amount of smoke clouds in the distance. I turned around and said:
"Hey, you can see it from here!"
The cop slid another chair over and looked. He turned white like a ghost. I think i heard him murmur something. He looked at me through his glasses and said he had bad news.
"What is it?" I said thoughtfully.
"We received a call from your dad, he said he wouldn't be able to pick you up," he said. I think he was hiding something by the looks of him.
"Why,"
"You're not going to like it. Your dad said that he was on a tour to the Twin Towers and that he's still their....he's not going to make it,"
I looked at him dumbstruck. My eyes widened. I could feel my eyes fill up with water. What? He was out of my life just like that. Now what.
Mrs. Gable came to my rescue and said she could pay for my bail. I wiped away my tears.
"Well, I suppose you could," the officer said. We put the chairs back and walked out the doors.
Us four walked out to the front desk, while Bethany's mom payed with her credit card.
"Thanks," I said. "Don't mention it Sweetie" she replied.
We got to the parking lot and climbed into a blue Explorer.
" Zoey, I'm really sorry--- Bethany said. "It's ok," I cut in. "I'll be fine," I pressed my cheek against the window. We were driving towards my house.
"I think it would be a good idea if we got your cat," her mom said. We parked in my drive way and I ran in to grab my cat. "DANGER!!" A brown blob of a head popped out behind the bookshelf. "Come here pretty kitty," I cooed. I scooped him up and carried him to the car.
