I kept slipping in and out of consciousness. My head hurt a lot and I felt my clothes sticking to my skin. I finally woke up. The sharp pain I had felt in my ribs returned and my hand went there on impulse but that was a terrible mistake. I groaned loudly. I tried to pull myself off the floor but my legs were uncooperative. I reached for a metal pole close by and was able to pull myself up. I stumbled a bit and I felt blood dripping from my injured side. I felt dizzy. I was still at the park but I was quick to notice that the bag was gone. So was my gun. I saw the flash from police cars around the park and the dead bodies were covered and being loaded into ambulance vans. I was unnoticed. I had fallen into the dark and miraculously or as a result of poor surveillance by the police, that shielded me from them. But what happened to the bag? I was losing so much blood and it was a miracle that I was still alive. I stumbled towards the neglected exit of the park and slipped out. I walked as fast as my weak legs could carry me, the dark night sky shielding me and covering me like a black cloak. A few taxis drove by and stopped but bolted again when they saw me half dead with my side, a pool of red. I kept walking, each step a lot difficult than the last.

I couldn't see where I was going or where I placed my foot. I just wanted to get as far away from the crime scene as possible. Although I wasn't making good progress. I fought to keep my eyes open. My throat was patched and my legs were weak. I stumbled and fell a couple times. Each time harder than the last. I wasn't heading home. I couldn't even figure out the way home. I kept stumbling till I got to an unfamiliar street. Some houses still had their lights on and some were pitch black. Dogs were occasionally barking when I crossed their yards. I was about to pass out. I felt my legs getting as heavy as lead. My injured area was already numb. I felt my head get heavier and my vision blur. My half conscious subconscious told me I couldn't afford to pass out on an open street. I would be in jail before I could live again. So I did the only reasonable thing my dazed mind could think of. I stumbled into an open dark garage and finding a comfortable spot among some ragged clothes and other incomprehensible materials, I lay down and shut my eyes. Death, the only visitor I expected.

I woke, surprisingly with zero headache or hangover. The late night aspirin helped, I guess. I quickly had a shower and dressed for school. I opened my computer and checked to see if any of the colleges I had sent an application to had responded. No response yet. I wasn't discouraged though. I was an A+ student with a pro athletic history. After the state championships, I might be able to bag a full-ride athletic scholarship. It's a win win. I checked my social media accounts for messages and notifications. Just a few irrelevant ones. I logged off and went downstairs. My mom was in the kitchen fixing breakfast while dad's eye was glued to the T.V screen.
"Good morning mom, Good morning dad" I said dropping my back pack on the couch. My mom responded with a smile and a quiet "Good morning baby" While dad still had his eye glued on the screen with a cup of coffee in hand.
"Come check this out Amanda" My dad called out to my mom. My attention was drawn to the screen too. The local news lady was on the screen reporting a crime scene. "Crossfire between dangerous gangs" was written on the headline. 7 dead and 5 badly injured. A trail of blood was seen left by one of the injured culprits while leaving the scene of the crime. If anyone comes across an injured person, especially a gun shot wound, contact the police.
"To think that this happened on a children's park is alarming" said my dad sipping his coffee
"And just a few blocks away" My mom said with a worried frown on her face.
"It keeps getting worse. If a woman is not raped, then she gets shot. Or her husband gets shot. Or her dog. These smugglers has polluted the streets. crime is on the rise everyday"
"I'm so worried it happened so close by" Mom said returning to her half burnt eggs.
"Did you see anything while driving home last night honey?" My dad said directing the question to me.
"Ummm....No dad. I wasn't driving...."
"......and because you were drunk" My mom said giving me a disapproving look.
I sighed and sat down on a stool around the kitchen island while she served me breakfast.
"See, Kelly honey, I know you are an adult now and you think you can do whatever you want but we are still your parents and we are still responsible for you. The days are bad right now and I don't want you in danger. Reduce the partying and stay far away from drugs or anyone involved with it" My mom said worry written all over her face. I nodded and promised her while I stuffed my face. After breakfast, I grabbed my keys, bade them goodbye and left for the garage. I had completely forgotten the strange sight I saw last night till I saw it again. The blood had already dried out on the floor but still visible. The panic gripped me again. This time I was willing to investigate. Even if it was an injured animal, I had to find out and take it to the vet if it was still alive or throw it out if it was dead. I carefully followed the trail till I got to a strange shape lying among the work clothes and equipment. My heart beat was erratic. It sure wasn't an animal because this creature was clothed. Was human. I approached gently and carefully till her face came into view. She was as white as a sheet and her clothes were soaked with her blood. I bent on one knee and careful enough not to get my clothes stained, I checked her pulse. It was still there but faint; easy to miss. I couldn't think of what next to do. I pulled out my phone to dial the police but on a second thought, I replaced it in my pants pocket. The cops would probably think we had something to do with it. I couldn't tell mom and dad either. They would freak out and inform the cops. I Had to think of something. Fast.
