Chapter 10:
Packing up the gear and cameras, Gold accidentally wakes his professor from her nap in his haste. From his right arm, a long and narrow screen speaks of heightened Grimm activity from the South, lowered activity of the White Fang, and seeming disappearance of Roman Torchwick. On the forehalf, he periodically scrolled when his hands were free.
“Gold, what are you doing!?” Professor Greene bursts, stomping her foot in front of him.
He steps around her, placing the duffle bag by the door, “I’m changing the mission to one of far greater importance; the defense of Vale.” He sweeps across the screen again, “I’m messaging every teacher, every hunter, every student in my contacts; Vale must be defended, if it falls… Doesn’t matter, it won’t be so.”
She places a palm on his chest, stopping him, “Mr. Jin, you are not classified to do that.”
“Not through means of Hunter, but in matters of warfare, a soldier is asked upon before a warrior.” Gold opens the balcony door and climbs onto the railing, “This is no longer against Grimm, Professor, this is war!” Turning to her with open arms, the air grows hazy and blurry as flames combusts from nothing, two large wings of golden fire illuminate in righteous heat. “And I- am The Phoenix! I will not have my kind bring extinction upon themselves!”
Gold leans back, leaving the cold ground for the air he so much misses, flapping his wings releases white sparks and feathers of flame fall to dissipate soon after detachment. His golden light is so powerful that anyone who looks at him must shield their eyes, a sun that dives from the clouds to the tallest building of the Northeastern District, a church’s belltower. Standing at the grounds of future war at the rising of the dawning suns, many ships of old used war, Bullheads far dated from modern warfare, fly to the district, their powerful passengers being all they need to hold their own. Wrapping around the tower until they come to Gold’s left, the shudders slide open and Gold extinguishes his wings.
Juane holds onto a sidebar with his dear life, “Gold, what’s going on!? I thought White Fang were attacking!”
“Give it a bit, they need to arrive first.”
Gold unsheathes his short sword, the blade growing as it is brought out. He rests it blade down in front of him, holding onto the pommel as the earth itself begins to rumble. In the distance, an explosion breaks the surface, shrapnel being sent in large and small, a jagged piece of good size even grazing across the unfaltered Gold’s chest. His body and clothes stitch back to full in golden flame. Not even a minute after, the courtyard they surround bursts in flame, metal, and concrete! Destroying homes and the church tower, making those around coward into cover. Jutting halfway out from the earth, a train releases heavy clouds of smoke with Team RWBY laid outside. They are surrounded quickly by the beasts that crawl from the pit, as black as night and normal as the shattered moon.
Starting a mass call on his scroll, Gold fixes the earpiece under his blindfold. He overlooks the fight which quickly begins, and starts putting out orders; “JNPR, get RWBY out of here! Team SSSN, protect JNPR! Cardin, call in your locker for purple flares! Coco, clear the skies until Atlas takes effect!”
Jumping from their bullhead, Jaune leads his team to the train wreckage, grabbing a member of RWBY each. While Sun keeps three of them defended with distractions of golden clones, Neptune shoots from afar.
A Giant Nevermore nearly crashes into Gold, well, only half of a nevermore. “Bring RWBY and Civs into the church, it will be a safehouse!” Gold orders, repairing what had been damaged to the building. In the corner of his right eye, he sees them; three of the members of Team CMEN arrive by foot. “Cardin, take over! I’m dropping in.”
Stepping over the ledge, Gold nose dives into the pack of grimm that strikes the church doors. He fixes himself up and stabs in the ground as he lands on a knee, sending forth explosions of golden fire that incinerates the grimm to instant ash.
Gold runs through the combat, swiping far and wide in quick succession. As he nears the duo of Mercury and Emerald, he bashes his pommel into her head and stabs his leg. His leg deforms so it's bent out, he punches Gold in the chin and makes the warrior step back. Spitting out a tooth, Gold growls and pounces on Mercury. He locks Merc into a clinch with his pommel behind Merc’s head, Gold continuously knees into Mercury’s ribs. Emerald uses her sickles to hook Gold’s shoulders, but Gold drags Mercury’s head into one and grinds his face down the blade, making her release shoot Gold’s back. Gold backhands Emerald and grabs Mercury’s throat, he slams him into the brick road and stomps his face in.
Emerald shoots him in the eye, shattering his aura, but the wound sets itself alite. “What is wrong with you, we're supposed to be teammates!”
Without a word, Gold points his sword at her and shoots a bolt directly to her chest, blasting her into a light pole. “Cinder has gotten away, lackeys are down.” As an Ursa charges him, he cleaves it down the middle and grabs the Beowulf that pounces through the split, he snaps its throat and orders everyone. “Clear the zone! The only thing these beasts will overrun is your failure.”
The Grimm are shot down in volleys of fire, from both ground and sky. Gold drags Mercury by his ankle and drags him to the broken light pole, dropping him on Emerald. Stomping past him, Professor Goodwitch waves her riding crop and repairs the pole, in her stride to the pit she repairs the fountain, pit, and building front. Squatting beside the unconscious duo, Gold waits as an Atlesan transport lands down the road, walking out a short officer skips out and points to Gold, releasing a squad of droids that march in perfect synergy. The officer waits beside Gold as the duo are cuffed and lifted, she gives him a wink, her right eye turning pink as she does.
“Good work, but find Cinder. I-” With a sigh, he takes off his blindfold from his right eye. “I’m not gonna be fighting much longer, my aura won’t be healing anytime soon.” Picking himself up, he sheaths his sword and allows her to cuff him. “You know the plan, so let's get this over with.”
