«It's just the pits without you, baby. It's really just the pits without you, baby. It's like everyone's a dick without you, baby. Ain't I fallen in love?»

---

All the words coming from his press officer slowly faltered in the air when he spotted the person he'd been looking for since someone informed him they'd seen her around the Ferrari hospitality talking to one of the employees. He double-checked, just to be sure, that indeed the girl standing next to Charles and having a chat with the driver in front of the Ferrari garage was Aurora. It was. Thank fuck. He could feel the relief running through him the more clear his vision of her became.

"Ziggo will probably...Max, what are you doing? Where are you going?" His press officer raised the tone of her voice when he began walking faster in front of her, making a direct line towards the couple.

The last thing he could hear was a very resigned sigh and a vague 'we'll talk after then'. Later he would have time to apologise for leaving her hanging. The Italian didn't notice him approaching until he reached to touch her shoulder. The poor girl jolted in surprise, and when she turned to see who was disturbing her conversation with Charles, her eyes went a bit wide, lips parting a little as well. She looked terrified for a moment. The Ferrari driver, not missing a second of the new entrance in the scene, pinned his attention on him too, and suddenly Max felt too seen.

"Where is your best friend?" He blurted out. His hands gestured in the air urging her for an answer.

Aurora blinked. A second after something seemed to flash for her. "Oh god, not this again." She heaved a sigh.

On her other side, Charles snorted. Max looked at him with brows slightly furrowed. "So she did ghost you too." His tone was teasing, like he would explode into laughs at any moment if he could.

"Charles, don't start." Aurora turned to him. Her warning tone managed to get Charles to lift his hands in the air, feigning surrender and pure innocence. "Can you give us a moment?" She asked, and her boyfriend nodded, giving her a smile.

He then glanced at Max again, still seemingly entertained. "You're fucked." Charles pointed to him with a finger before he began walking back towards the inside of the Ferrari garage, keeping an eye on them.

The amusement in his expression just showed he was having perhaps too much fun with the situation.

In other circumstances, Max would have flipped him off, but he assumed doing so in front of Aurora wouldn't be of much help. So he resorted to throwing the other driver a death glare before he finally disappeared inside the garage in between mechanics and engineers. When Max returned his attention to Aurora, the girl already had her eyes fixed on him. Arms crossed over her chest and everything. She was far less intimidating than Salma and Irina, physically speaking, but her protectiveness was hard to ignore.

"Where is Sloane?" He tried once again. "I've been trying to reach her for days now. You and Vivianne ignored me, Irina pretty much replied to my message saying I wasn't half as impressive as I believed myself to be, and Salma told me to kill myself...in French." It had been a journey to go through them.

She tipped her chin up, trying to look more confident and threatening, it seemed. He knew she'd picked that bearing from the gone girl herself because Sloane always did that. They were like twins who looked and acted completely differently but managed to mirror each other's manners from time to time. If Sloane were around he'd joke about that with her and she would laugh and tell him they weren't similar at all, but she wasn't there...fuck.

"Max, I know everything," Aurora stated with a stern tone. Not moving a single muscle of her face.

His expression dropped, brows still furrowing just enough to show confusion. "Everything?"
