"Mei Fan-senpai? Um... are you busy?"
"Huh? Oh. I can spare some time if you need something."
It wasn't exactly common for Shiori to approach Mei Fan like this. Sure, they had gotten closer since they started dating Michiru, but this wasn't normal. Shiori was quite nervous. She had grown quite confident asking her for help. Why was she not this time?
"Well... Michiru-senpai's birthday is... soon and I don't know what to even look at for gifts." Shiori mumbled, "Do you have any ideas?"
Mei Fan chuckled nervously, "Um... actually I'm kinda in the same boat. I haven't found something that I know she'd really like yet. She's really hard to read sometimes."
"Oh..." Shiori was not expecting that.
"Well, since we're both stuck, maybe we should go shopping together?" Mei Fan suggested.
"Sure." Shiori agreed.
"So, when should we go?"
"Tomorrow is the weekend. We could go then." Shiori offered.
"Alright. It's a deal then." Mei Fan agreed.
...
Shiori still wanted to try and get an idea of what Michiru might like for a present. She wasn't sure about straight up asking her, though. Wouldn't that ruin the surprise too much?
But, she decided to try and ask her a little bit. What else could she really do?
"Hey, Michiru-senpai."
"Yes, Shiori?"
"What are you watching?"
"Just some random movie. Come sit."
Shiori accepted the offer and sat down next to Michiru. Michiru smiled at her.
"Where is everyone else?" Shiori asked.
"I'm not sure. I think Mei Fan and Yachiyo went out somewhere for a bit. I have no clue where Akira vanished to." Michiru replied.
"Okay. So... your birthday is soon."
"Yep."
"Is there anything you want to do in particular that day?" Shiori questioned. That was another thing she wanted to figure out.
Michiru thought it over, "Hmm... I don't know yet."
"Do you want a cake?"
"Aren't you supposed to surprise me with these things?" Michiru asked in a teasing voice.
"But I need to know what flavor you want the cake to be." Shiori replied, "I don't want you to hate it."
"Fair enough." Michiru chuckled, "Let me see... how about an ice-cream cake?"
"Ice-cream cake...?" Shiori repeated, "O-okay. Um... what type of ice-cream?"
"Half vanilla half chocolate."
"Okay. I can work with that." Shiori stated.
"Anything else you want to ask me?"
"Well... is there anything you want as a present?" Shiori asked.
"Not that I'll tell you." Michiru hummed, "I want to see what you think of yourself."
Shiori pouted. She didn't like that answer. She was asking because she had no clue where to start. This was not going how she wanted it to.
"At least give me an idea of stuff you wouldn't mind getting."
"I won't mind anything as long as you give it to me."
