Chapter 17: Finding Out The Truth

As soon as they landed they went straight to the BAU. Will was waiting with Henry and Micheal. Will said "Spencer I'm sorry they took her I tried to stop them but I couldn't."

"It's fine."

Garcia said "Gideon's on his way, I'm on hold with DCFS, trying to get through with them now. Hotch I've got the woman's number written down who reported. Spencer how are you?"

Hotch said "Thank you Garcia, have you got an ETA on Gideon?"

Garcia said "A few minutes out."

Hotch said "Send him to my office when he gets here."

Garcia said "yes sir."

Hotch said "Reid come with me. Garcia connect the line with DCFS on through to my office."

"Yes sir." Reid and Hotch went up to Hotch's office. Hotch sat down behind his desk and Reid sat on the chair opposite. "Reid! Spencer!" He looked up, "Reid I need you to stay focused, we are going to get Evelyn back, Gideon is coming now. We are all here for you. I need you to explain everything that happened last time."

Reid said "Okay. Someone at the hospital reported a possible abuse case, after Evelyn had been in multiple times for school related accidents and the bullying. With all the injures they were concerned which who wouldn't be? So they went to her school since they don't like taking them from home in case the parent has done something, so they collected her from school. The school notified me and so did DCFS. When I answered the phone to DCFS I said 'Dr Spencer Reid?' they said 'Dr Reid we have taken you're daughter into immedate foster placement as it has been reports of possible abuse, I am sorry about the urgency and no prior warning.' 'excuse me who is this?' 'this is Department of children and family services.' 'why have you took my daughter?' 'abuse report' 'okay how can I get her back?' 'We will do a house check in and then you're work schedule, child care. home visits, family, get in contact with her mother,' 'Can I stop you, her mother abandoned her one my door step and she was a premature baby.' 'okay but we have more steps and processes to go through I will inform you all about them but the first thing I need you to do is come down to the DCFS centre.' So I sorted out a time for later that evening and told Gideon and went down to DCFS. It took weeks to get her back. When she did she was thinner and bruised. She looked like she hadn't ate since she was taken my little girl looked traumatised. I had to take her to a therapist it got better but not back to how it was. I promised her it wouldn't happen again but it has. I broke the promise."

someone walked in "Reid."

"Gideon." Reid got out of the chair and went and hugged Gideon tight.

"Reid we are getting her back it's not going to happen like last time again."

"Okay."

"Reid, Evvy is my granddaughter so we are getting her back."

"Okay."

"Me and Hotch are going to that family's house and find out why they reported you, okay?"

"Okay."

Hotch and Gideon left. Once they arrived they knocked. A little girl opened the door. "Who are you?"

"Can we talk to your mom or dad please?"

"Okay." she ran into the house and fetched her mother.

Helen said "Hello who are you?"

Hotch said "Mrs Helen Sanders?"

"Yes?"

"I am Agent Hotchner and this is our Liason Jason Gideon from the FBI. Can we come in?"

"Sure." They walked through to the living room. "Hey Gracie go upstairs." Gracie nodded and left. "What is this about again?"

"Evelyn Reid."

"OH! You work with her father right?"

"Yes, we would like to know why you reported and split up this family for abuse and neglect. Did you see any bruises or evidence."

"No, but the way Evelyn answered my questions she seemed upset."

"So you reported them without any evidence at all."

"Yes you are supposed to report when you see the signs."

"Yes but what signs?"

"Evelyn had major signs of neglect, shes skinny and has obivous lack of parents. abuse wise I found her medical history and found the amount of breakages and bruise and harmed thing that has happened to her."

"If you had looked into her history you would have seen the bullying and her past in the foster system. you need to look before you report them and now you have took a young girl away from a capable father. Who when he's not here makes sure she has a roof over her head and getting food, clean clothes and staying warm. Yes her dad may be young but he is extremely capable and mature for his age."

"I will wait for the report to come back. Instead of taking your word for it."

"Those reports can take months. And you're taking a child away for that long and her dad Spencer won't even be able to visit her and if he is eventually allowed it will be highly supervised."

"I am waiting for the report. So please leave my home."

"Evelyn won't be put into the school she is at with your daughter they will have her transferred she won't be allowed contact with your daughter or her friends and family. So I hope you are proud of splitting up a wonderful family that deserves more than they have got and finally deserves to be dealt a good hand not the one they have."

"Please leave my home or I will call the police."

Hotch said "Okay were are leaving." Mrs Sanders walked them to the door.before she shut it Gideon said "Mrs Sanders Evelyn is my granddaughter not biological but she's like mine. I helped raise her when her dad first got her. Her dad was a twenty two year old single father to a baby and now is a thirty year old father to a gifted eight year old girl. He's trying his best and doing it and my Evelyn is extremely happy wiht her dad."

Mrs Sanders said "I'm sorry but I've reported it and am waiting for it to come back." She shut the door. Hotch and Gideon left the place. They were ready to talk to Reid.
