We stood at the top of a ledge looking through a telescope. It pointed at the large WCKD building ahead of us. Gally moved it around slowly and stopped. He looked over at me and down at the telescope. I knew it was Desiree. Lowering my head down I looked through it into the office building. There she was. Her dark hair pulled into a messy ponytail. A lab coat draped over her. She shuffled papers and read them cautiously. I clenched my jaw and backed away. Thomas looked through intensely. Stepping back he pursed his lips uncomfortably.

"I know this isn't going to be fun, but it's the only way," Gally said looking at us.

"Let's go," I said clinging down a ladder into the city.
My feet hit the ground carefully. Newt dropped next to me. I helped steady him as he grabbed onto my shoulder. Looking over at him I gave a soft smile and nod. A slight grin tugged at his lips. We started jogging cautiously through the city. The streets were practically empty as the night sky hovered. A large vehicle drove towards us with sirens blaring. We quickly hid behind a wall. The vehicle drove past and turned a corner. I looked over at Gally worried. He readjusted and went off running again. More people started appearing as we entered the main area of the city.

"Okay, we'll meet you guys there, good luck," Gally said looking at Thomas and I. We nodded and parted ways. Pulling up our hoods Thomas and I walked on the sidewalk with the crowds. A loud screaming erupted from next to us. I quickly grabbed Thomas' arm as we both looked over. People in yellow jumpsuits tackled a man to the ground as a woman next to him screamed.

"I'm not sick! I'm not!" The man yelled as they grabbed his arms. I looked up at Thomas scared. His chest puffed up and down in fear. My arm unhooked his as we approached a crosswalk. Looking up at the crowd of people across the street my eyes widened. There she was. Thomas tapped my hand twice as I nodded.

"Well shit, no turning back now," I said swallowing hard. Her eyes instantly locked with mine. I watched as her solemn expression quickly changed to confusion and shock. Her eyebrows furrowed as we stared ahead at her. Looking between Thomas and I we started walking to the left.

"Thomas? Isabella?" Her voice faintly asked. We kept walking as my heart pounded. I could feel my veins pulsing as I stayed close to Thomas. We kept walking as I could feel her behind us. Reaching the train terminal we entered the empty lobby area. Thomas and I separated and waited behind two walls. The sound of heels tapping the cold tile slowly crept closer.

"Bella? Thomas?" Desiree's voice asked in the silent air. Chills ran down my spine as her voice processed. It was really her. Thomas stepped forward. She flinched as she looked at him confused.

"Thomas?" Her voice asked quietly. She quickly walked towards him as he stepped back uncomfortably. She stopped and sighed.

"Look Thomas, i'm sorry, you have to un-,"

"Do you regret it?" He asked cutting her off. Her eyes watered as she looked at Thomas longingly.

"Sometimes, but you have to understand it was for a good reason, it's what I thought was right!" She said sternly.

"And now?" I asked stepping forward. She turned around and looked at me in disbelief. Tears stung at my eyes as I looked at her. She looked older, more mature. Her face slowly became filled with guilt.

"You know we were best friends before the maze," I added pursing my lips. She gave me a sorry look.

"Isabella i'm-,"

I shook my head and looked up at her.

"I know, I remember it all, everything, you, me, Thomas," She said as a tear rolled down her cheek.

"Yet you still betrayed us. All of us Des, everything we did for you, I did for you," I said biting my lip. She looked over at Thomas as he stared at her bitterly.

"Please, you have to understand," She said as we stared at her angrily. Thomas and I looked at each other with approval. I glanced over at Gally as he walked up behind and shoved a cloth bag over her head.
