A lesson in teamwork

"Russel Thrush, Cardin Winchester, Dove Bronzewing, Sky Lark. The four of you retrieved the black bishop pieces. From this day forward, you will work together as Team CRDL. Led by Cardin Winchester."

The audience politely clapped as Oz officialized teams. This team in particular felt like they would be quite the pain in the ass though. Next to the podium was Jaune, Nora, Pyrrha, and Ren. Who were officially recognized as Team JNPR. Led by Jaune Arc. He had potential hidden away somewhere, I could feel it. and even though his skills in combat were lackluster at best, he did lead his team in defeating a deathstalker. Which was not an opponent to be taken lightly. After them was the last, and certainly not least, Team RWBY. Led by Ruby Rose. I certainly couldn't argue with the decision there. After all it was Ruby who came up with the plan to kill the nevermore. I wasn't called with anyone, so I guess I'll be expelled privately while everyone else is celebrating.

Ozpin: There is one person left. Y/n L/n. You failed to retrieve a relic and find a partner. But of no fault of your own. Our faculty miscounted the number of students in the academy this year, and you are an extra. But, due to your extraordinary skill in both combat and leadership, you will not be expelled.

Well, that was unexpected. And very unprofessional. How does an academy like Beacon miscount the number of people coming? I don't think I'll ever get my answer. As I walked onstage, the large holographic screens showed what looked like drone footage of me assisting Blake and Yang, and then swapped to our fight with the nevermore. There were some ooo's and aah's at the sheer size of the winged beast. And then some wow's and woah's when me and Ruby took its head.

Ozpin: As you cooperated most commonly with Team RWBY, you will be an honorary fifth member of the team.

The audience applauded, and Ruby, Blake and Yang all smiled at me. Ruby was ecstatic that I was going to be on her team, as well as being the first extra team member in Beacon's history. Weiss was less than enthusiastic about the situation. Couldn't really blame her this time though.

Ozpin: Looks like things are shaping up to be an interesting year.

Me and RWBY went to our assigned dorm rooms, for four people, they seemed small. One of the first things I noticed was the number of beds. It wasn't surprising that there weren't enough, but it was a little annoying. Guess I'll be taking the floor. Not that I really mind, but I would prefer a bed after sleeping against a wall.

Yang: Well, guess this is our dorm.

Y/n: Considering we could actually unlock it with our scrolls, I'd hope so.

Weiss: We need to talk about this.

Ruby: Talk about what Weiss?

Weiss: There's one guy in a dorm of four girls!

Y/n: I'll sleep on the floor, you guys have the beds. And I'll step out when you change. As for any other implications, Ruby and Yang are my siblings, I don't know Blake very well, and I'd rather get torn apart by the Grimm than be caught with a Schnee. So don't worry about it.

Weiss: Excuse me-!?

Ruby: I guess that settles things! Time for bed! See you in the morning Team RWBY!

Blake: Are you sure you're okay with the floor Y/n?

Y/n: Yeah, it's fine.

I stepped out so they could change into sleepwear. Once I was allowed back in, I propped my weapon up against a wall and lied down in a corner. Wasn't the most comfortable thing, but I was so tired I didn't care. Blake looked like she wanted to say something, but just lied down to sleep. I made sure to pass out before Yang, because she snores like an angry Ursa.
