The Missing Key

A/n: this is so cringe, tbh. Anyways, slightly inspired by 'You Belong With Me' by Taylor Swift.

Y/n was sitting at the Gryffindor table, with her best friend sitting right beside her. It was Sunday, and so there was no rush for classes, and pretty much everyone was chilling.

Y/n was busy in her Defence Against the Dark Arts homework that she got as a detention last night. Let's just say Snape wanted an opportunity to humiliate her, and this was it.

She turned to her best friend, "Harry, could you help—?" but then stopped mid-sentence when she saw that he was drooling over his crush, Ginny Weasley.

Harry Potter was Y/n Y/l/n's best friend, at least that's what Harry thought. But everytime she saw Harry fancying Ginny, her heart pained. She would feel a discomfort in her chest, but she knew it wasn't jealousy, or... was it? She wanted to tell Harry, that he had won her soul, her heart, her mind, and her everything, but maybe the words were lost in a room of her heart, whose keys were missing.

Dismissing the feelings, she returned to her work, at her current question which was squeezing out all her memory and energy, but she didn't want to disturb Harry. She was not that selfish, that she would take away his happiness just for hers. It hurted so much to see him look at Ginny the way she wished for Harry to look at her. Sometimes she wished she was blind, at least she would not have to avoid what she had to see.

"You were saying something?" Harry asked, giving Y/n a little nudge.

"Huh? No I wasn't."

"I thought—"

"No you didn't. You were too busy gazing your crush," Y/n teased, trying to hide the guilt and embarassment in her voice.

Harry rubbed the back of his neck, and surely he was flustered. Harry tried to find words to speak, "Erm—"

"OH DAMN!" Y/n frantically stood up, "Hermione just told me to meet her in the library. Gotta go!"

"See you!" Harry waved, saw her getting disappeared, and then stuffed his breakfast in his mouth.

I wish you found the keys, Harry.

To Harry's obliviousness, Y/n stood at the gateway of the Great Hall, admiring him, as a tear rolled down her right cheek. She knew, he never wanted her, and she knew, that it was hard to let her feelings die inside her.

She turned, towards the library, wiping her tears with the handcuff of her shirt. At least, Hermione had not really called her, but she was not supposed to just sit there and be a third wheel in Harry's and Ginny's anticipated relationship.

While she was walking to the Library, she was still thinking about what Harry had said to her last night. They were sitting in the common room, and Harry told her that he was going to ask Ginny out on a date very soon. She also noticed how he blushed when he mentioned Ginny, and he hoped that Ginny felt the same as Harry did for her.

"Ow—" Y/n bumped into one of the Slytherin boys, which definitely snapped her out of her thoughts or daydream, whatever you call it.

"Better watch your steps, Y/l/n..." the Slytherin mocked her, pushed her out of the way and moved on.

At this point, she just felt like crying. She was really stupid, wasn't she?

Otherwise, why would she offer to be a wingman of Harry's relationship with Ginny? Or maybe, she was really just stupid for Harry.

Thinking about it, she remembered, she had to meet the red-head in the year younger than her, to talk about Harry's feelings. Harry was an idiot, really, when it came to expressing and confessing romantic feelings.
