Esora Pov.

Hello there! My name is Tsuyuzaki Esora, I'm eighteen years old and was a third-year in high school who was about to graduate. I was born into a family of flower farmers consisting of myself, my grandmother, my parents and two younger brothers. I've lived most of my life in a small town in Miyagi and had one person to call my best friend. He took me out of my sheltered life and showed me how a regular teenager lives and I'm forever grateful to him.

Now you notice I'm saying this all in past tense, and there is a reason for that. A really weird reason. Let me tell you about a very weird day I had when I went to the convenience store...

~~~
It was around the time I returned from school earlier than usual since there weren't any club activities today, after returning home and getting dressed into some normal clothes, I decided to make plans with a friend of mine to see if he would hang out with me if he's not busy doing something else.
I entered WhatsApp on my phone and I saw that my friend was online so I messaged him:
Me:
Hey, Kazu-NEET! Are you still alive? ≧ω
A few seconds later, I saw that he was typing before he sent his answer.
Kazu-NEET:
Of course, I am! (¬_¬)
What do you want? I thought you had Gardening club, did you get a day off?
Me:
What are you talking about?! It's almost summer break! There'll be no club activities in the week before break starts. I was already dropped at your house but your mom sent me to the convenience store to buy some snacks. I'm heading to Kyoto in two weeks, so I thought why don't I spend those weeks with you before then?
It was silence for three minutes before Kazuma sent his message.
Kazuma:
That's great, I'll be home in about half an hour.
Me:
Your mom told me you were gone. Did you skip school? Where are you?
Kazuma:
Oh, about that... I went to the sale of a limited edition release of that popular online game! You know, I couldn't ask my mom to go get it...
I sigh under my breath before typing again.
Me:
I mean, as long as you don't make it a habit. I'm bummed because I couldn't go since it's a school week! ( TДT)
Kazuma:
Geez, calm down!
I knew you'd freak out like this so I bought two of 'em!
Me:
Thank you very much, Kazuma-sama!
O(≧▽≦)O
Kazuma:
Just so you know that came from the money I was planning to buy your birthday present with, so consider this your early present!
I laughed softly and put my phone away.
My friend, Satou Kazuma, is the same age as me and we lived in the same neighbourhood. We were even in the same classes all through elementary and middle school. Although, we only formally met when we were paired up for project in our first year in middle school and became friends after bonding over games, anime and manga.
We were stuck together like glue that our classmates always wondered how we could possibly be friends, some of my female classmates even tried talking me out of hanging out with Kazuma by pointing out his bad points which is just him being a otaku and staying away from everyone who isn't me.
I only recall one major fight we had, and that was during our third year in middle school when I got the opportunity to attend an elite high school all the way in Kyoto which my grandmother was insisting that I attend so I wouldn't be enrolling in the same high school as Kazuma which resulted in a fight. You see, because of Kazuma's withdrawn and distant attitude towards our classmates, he doesn't have a lot of friends until I came along. Since we hung out a lot as children, I knew how to tolerate his personality so we were pretty close. In a small town like this, even if Kazuma goes to high school, he'll be stuck with the same kids from middle school and get stuck with the same distant relationship with his classmates.
We didn't make up until a week after I moved in with my aunt and uncle in Kyoto when Kazuma actually took a train from Miyagi to Kyoto so he could apologize. After such a grand gesture, how could I not accept his apology?
'Maybe I should buy Kazuma some snacks as well...' I wondered as I strolled through the junk food aisle and before I could grab anything I hear someone yell.
"Put the money in the bag, lady!" I turned around and saw a man, dressed in a hoodie, jeans, and sneakers pointing a handgun at the cashier who was frozen in fear. "And don't even think about pushing the alarm!"
The lady nods her head and frantically opens the cashier while putting all the cash into the duffel bag that sat on the counter.
I had already hidden behind one of the aisles when the guy first yelled, my heart was beating fast because I'm in the middle of an actual robbery. By some stupid luck, I slipped on a wet portion of the floor and used one of the shelves to hold me up, but the racket had gotten the robber's attention as he turned his body around and pointed his gun in my direction. Without so much as a warning, the son of a bitch shot his gun before I could move.
"KYAAAAH!" I hear the lady scream and all I could feel was a burning feeling in my throat. Blood began squirting out of the gun wound on my throat and it also began coming out through my mouth which made me cough out the liquid down my front.
The robber looked frightened and panicked like he didn't actually mean to shoot someone, so he grabbed whatever cash was stuffed inside the bag and ran off. The cashier lady had already pressed the alarm button when the robber ran off and hurried to my side.
"O-Oh, no! I-I-I can't stop the bleeding!!" She took off her jacket to try to apply pressure to the wound but it didn't help.
Slowly I felt my eyes growing heavy and the lady kept yelling at me to keep my eyes open but I already welcomed the darkness that called for me.
