The man held up his hand and reached under his dirty hat. He pulled a half bread and broke it in two. He chewed one and for a moment cast his eyes to the now moonlit yard. No mocking smile was seen. He is now the innocent boy he was once was. Norma relaxed, knowing that beneath that haggard exterior, a soft heart is beating steadily.
Now, she is curious about the young man with the innocent boyish smile.
Why is he so dirty?
Why is he here?
Where is everybody?
The man finished chewing. But he continued to stared absentmindedly to the yard. Then just like that he stood up and walked towards Norma. Norma felt her heart jumped. Maybe if I stay still, He will think I am just a decoration. He stopped inches away from her and held up his hand with half of the uneaten half bread. He broke it in half and put one half in front of Norma. Then he turned and walked away. He pushed the old screen door and stepped out of the house to the side porch and then he stood there.
Norma found it very odd. She was sure he is a criminal and chances are before the sunrise she will be raped or murdered. The young man turned to face Norma. Under the early moonlight, he is once again the innocent boy she once knew.
"I have been watching you." She heard him said.
"I have been waiting," said He again. He is standing outside the screendoor facing her unmoved body.
"We need to go." He turned and walked toward the fence.
"WAIT!"
A voice that Norma has never heard before just crept through her vocal cord and vibrates through the air.
