"Leave."
The chilling wind blew through the fields surrounding the Storm Spire as King Avizandum, The King of all Dragons confronted the two trespassers at the foot of his home. The first, a noble king from the human side of the continent who faced him with little fear in his eyes. The other, a high mage who undoubtedly mastered in the forbidden seventh magic, for it could be felt just by his presence alone. He towered over them both, glaring with resentment, anger, and spite. Although he had sensed them coming, even miles high in the clouds, he certainly wasn't expecting these two humans to dare face him again.
They had trespassed into Xadia not a few years ago with several others, and killed an innocent Magma Titan merely for its heart. It had not been the first time humans had sought to kill for magic, and he knew it certainly wouldn't be the last. He figured they would only return to avenge the lives he himself took in his fury that day, even after they were one of the lucky few to escape.
On any other day, he would gladly kill them immediately for their past actions and return to guarding the border. Yet he hesitated, for this was to be a time for life and love, not conflict, should flourish across Xadia.
His beloved son, the Dragon Prince, had been born.
Avizandum had patiently waited months by his love, Zubeia's side for the delivery, and finally, not one sunrise ago, they were nuzzling together by the warm and healthy egg of their son. The royal couple had dreamed of having a loving child for as long as they could remember; now it was only a matter of time until that dream came true. The birthing of his son will be the first in centuries, and he will certainly grow up to become a great and glorious leader. Zubeia had even chosen his name, Azymondias.
The Dragon King already loved his child, he couldn't wait to see him, and hold him in a warm embrace. Even if Azymondias doesn't initially succeed, whether in magic or leading, he would teach him everything he knew. He had done so much in his lifetime, earned so much, fought for so much... but becoming a father will be one of the biggest and greatest honors he could ask for.
"...Today of all days I will spare you... But you must turn around, and leave Xadia. Now."
"No!" the human king said sternly.
The Dragon King let out a deep growl and began clenching his wings, losing the little patience he had. He hated humanity with a passion, not only for discovering dark magic, but for their unnecessary greed and stubbornness. They always wanted more, albeit wealth, magic or power, and did what it took get want they wanted, even at the expense of others. For once, just once, he was willing to spare two of their kind, and yet they were still stubborn enough to stand their ground in a futile act of revenge... It's not like he expected any less, even before he was king humanity had been against the dragons and elves, and there was simply no way to change that.
"Today is a special day," growled King Avizandum. "A day of life! Do not force me to make it a day of death!"
The fact that these two still persisted on fighting was proof enough. Although, he would soon have greater priorities than the war, it didn't mean he wouldn't stop fighting anytime soon, and he certainly wouldn't hesitate to strike these two down. Besides, they had no warriors and only one weapon; a simple spear with what could only be a severed unicorn's horn at its tip, how horrendous. He could sense some form of powerful dark magic infused within it... but whatever it was, he knew it would never stand a chance against his might.
One. more. warning. Then he would show his wrath.
"This is your last chance! Leave. or DIE!" King Avizandum's voice was hinted with a powerful roar.
"You never gave her that choice!" The king looked straight into the dragon's eyes with an expression of pure hatred as he said that. He could only be talking about his mate, which, if the dragon remembered correctly, was one of the last humans he killed that day. A moment before the king began to strike, there seemed to be faint tears in his eyes; he then let out a fierce yell, raised the spear high above him, and began charging toward his death, anger completely blocking his rationality.
He raised his claw high into the air and brought it down as hard as he could. They would come to regret not accepting his mercy, and if any humans came later to avenge the deaths of their king, he would not show mercy again. Yet as he began to make his blow, he was suddenly and swiftly restrained. He look back over to the dark mage, who was putting all the strength he could muster into a spell coming from his staff that stopped his movement.
...Had he seen that staff before? No matter, the Dragon King wouldn't be taken down so easily! Using all the strength in his towering body, he tried to lower his claws down to the king. Powerful bolts of lighting emitted from his body in an attempt to weaken to spell as well. Of course, the mage wasn't able to hold him for very long, and he quickly fainted from the strain he exerted on himself. Just like that the restraining spell ceased, a futile effort, if only to let the king come closer to his defeat.
The two kings fixed their eyes onto the other, hatred burned within both of them for what the other had done. As the King of Xadia moved his fist to deliver the fatal blow, the King of Katolis thrust the spear toward him... A faint voice could be heard from the staff.
But unknowingly to the fighting trio, a cloaked winged figure was flying overhead and was horrified at the sight of before them. The figure have let out a faint cry of a Sky spell and to everyone's shock, a large blast of windy ice came from the above, striking Avizandum and encasing him in an icy prison from the spear. It made King Harrow fell off his horse in shock of what he just witnessed.
Viren was stunned by this and went to his king's side. "Looks like someone else hates him as much as we do." He soon spotted the cloaked Skywing Elf from the top of the Dragon King's icy prison, watching him warily and speaking to him quietly.
Viren muttered the cryptic words of the spell in a deep, throaty voice, and the whites of his eyes began to glow a purplish hue. "Percutere Magus Descendit." By those words, purple lightning has been shot towards the defiant Sky mage and hit him like an arrow hitting its target. The Sky mage cried out in pain and he fell down roughly onto the ground. The Sky mage laid on the ground, still and quiet.
But his icy prison wouldn't hold any longer. Avizandum's whole body crackled with electricity. His power shattered the ice, blowing fragments in every direction.
With his head finally free, Avizandum whipped around. He watched as the two humans made their escape from his wrath. But he turned around to see that the heroic Sky mage isn't a Skywing Elf at all. It was a human. The first human Sky Mage in centuries.
Avizandum lowered his head further until he was at eye level with the human boy. He leaned in and began to sniff the boy's head as if to detect something from the human. The wind from the dragon's nose blew the dark brown hair on the boy's head. As Avizandum lowered his head to continue sniffing the boy's body, he could feel the boy struggling against the bolt of dark magic. Cocking his head to the side, the great dragon scents the air. It is strong, but it is there. Magic. Emanating from the human in front of him. The union of a human and elf has not been unheard of, and in such cases the resulting offspring can radiate magic, but Avizandum cannot sense the familiar magic of elves radiating from this human. Instead it is something else... something new.
The boy coughed and looked up to see the Dragon King. He and Avizandum made eye contact with each other, love and sorrow could be seen in his warm green eyes and Avizandum felt surprising sympathy for the human. But the boy looked at the cursed staff that almost hit the Dragon King. Avizandum followed his gaze and felt a touch of regret for killing this boy's mother all those years ago. He gently growled at the boy, nudging him gently with his snout.
The boy coughed and laid down limply onto the ground. Avizandum's eyes softened as he gazed at his human savior. He leaned down, getting closer to the human boy. He let out a surprised snort when he saw the human mage faint.
Magic has been a part of his world all of his life; it is everything to him. It is what makes him him, and what shapes and molds the world around him. The primal sources are sacred and special in a way that is indescribable to someone who does not already know. Magic is life, and change, and everything.
But humans... humans do not have magic. A fact that Avizandum would not believe if he had not sensed it himself. But an entire race of creatures does not possess magic of any kind. It is almost... blasphemous. It is wrong.
He shudders to think about how a creature could live without the warm thrum of primal energy running through their veins. How they could feel happiness or joy or anything. They lack what every single other creature in Avizandum's life had and he had come to the reasonable conclusion that for this they were different and did not deserve the same rights as citizens of Xadia.
But then those cursed ants began to rebel and... and they began to steal innocent creature's magic. When Avizandum had first learned of this he had been horrified. Just the thought... made his lip curl and his stomach churn almost painfully. Dark magic was like taking someone's soul and ripping it from their body to corrupt it into something horrible and wrong. Magic was pure and light, and humans had taken one of the most amazing and beautiful things in the world and destroyed it for their own selfish needs.
He did not care if humans killed themselves in their own stupidity. But this blatant disregard for their own lives is something that influenced Avizandum's opinion of humans themselves. They were mornic and dangerous creatures that held no regard for others or even themselves and meddled in things they did not understand. He hated them with every fiber of his being.
But this human saved his life by putting his life on the line and miraculously found another source of magic that doesn't involve killing innocent animals. The archdragon does not plan on letting the cruel filth of humans touch this human boy again.
Avizandum looked up to faintly see the two humans looking back at him from afar. He leaned back down, he gently opened his mouth around the human body, sliding his tongue underneath his body and gently pulled him into his mouth. He maneuvered the human mage between his teeth, feeling the spear get lodged between his teeth he bit down breaking the tip of the spear off as it fell down to the ground. He unfolded his wings and flew back to the Storm Spire.
Harrow and Viren looked on with shock seeing that what just had happened spurred on the fear and dread. They both fled back to the Border faster than before. King Harrow fought back tears, knowing that his stepson was dead by the Dragon King's hand.
