All the members of the Dragon Guards watched as Queen Zubeia reunited with King Avizandum in the Storm Spire.
"My love." Queen Zubeia smiled at her husband as he walked towards her and nuzzled her.
"Zubeia," greeted King Avizandum in a deep, powerful voice. "How are you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Queen Zubeia and King Avizandum both nuzzled each other lovingly.
"Dad!" She wrapped her arms around Ibis and squeezed her dad tightly. Sierra felt Ibis's strong arms wrap around her. She shut her eyes and let her whole body relax into the embrace. Tears pricked her eyes in response to the familiar warmth of Ibis's arms, the smell of rain and storms that always followed him, and the simple feeling of being home again. She let out a noise that was halfway between a laugh and a sigh when she was lifted a few inches off the ground.
When Sierra looked up at Ibis's face, his face was alight with pure happiness. It was like when Sierra's mother would come home from a long trip and see her daughter after weeks of absence, her mother's eyes shining brighter than the sun.
"Did anything happen when we were gone?" Queen Zubeia asked King Avizandum curiously, her gentle, warm voice sounding like fresh summer rain.
King Avizandum caught Sierra's eye, she gave him a smug smirk and he rolled his eyes at her fondly. "You can say that. A young human mage have saved my life from two other humans and their dark magic. Believe it or not, but this young mage have managed to connect with the Sky Arcanum."
"My word!" exclaimed Zubeia. "Is he alright?"
"He's been hit by dark magic when he was protecting me." Avizandum glanced at the Skywing Elf mage. "Ibis, can you help him?"
"Of course Your Majesty." Ibis and Sierra both started following Tiadrin and Lain away from the others.
Lain and Tiadrin escorted Ibis through the Dragon Guard section of the Storm Spire as he still wondered who else was he to help. "Am I staying here a while?" They approached the last door as Lain began to unlock it. "Yes, you are and we have someone else for you to see." Tiadrin patted Ibis on the shoulder as he suddenly remembered what happened several days ago.
The tunnel wound in a curving shape, like a slithering tail, down into the mountain. On the cave walls were aflame torches and alit light blue and bright green glass globes of different colors are each hung from wires strong on the ceiling, each of them glowing with fire so the walls were lit with colors. It didn't feel like she was going into a mountain; it felt more like the sunlit canopy of the forest.
They walked towards the side corridor lined with glowing lanterns and alit glass globes. At the end, they turned into a space full of iridescent grayish-blue light.
The room was interesting to see. There was a few potted plants and a lovely scent of fresh herbs had went over them. On the cave ceiling is white glass globes. There's a bed with a well-made white blanket and white pillows in the cave. In the next door cave, the ceiling above were dozens of clusters of herbs, leaves, flowers, roots, nuts, bark shavings, and seeds. There's another table that held a large collection of bowls, knives, mortars, pestles, strainers, and other utensils to make healing powders, pastes, and poultices.
They entered the room before stopping dead looking at the bed to see the boy laying there in his sleeping state. "Oh my. Is he okay?" Ibis was in a state of shock, still looking at the boy as Tiadrin coaxed him over.
Ibis placed his staff against the wall near the door and walking to the bed. In the bed was the boy, his skin was very pale, and he was sweating up a storm like he was feverish and dark circles were under his eyes. Ibis's heart broke at the sight of the unconscious boy.
Ibis walked towards Callum and placed a hand on his chest. He felt worried about him as he listened to rapid breathing. It almost sounded as if he was drowning in a stormy ocean or something.
Ibis started tracing a shimmering rune shape in the air. As his fingertips moved, arcs of light formed, creating the glowing curves of the ancient, powerful symbol.
"Fulgur Pulsus." All at once, the shiny rune disappeared and the spell happened as he kept his hand on Callum's chest. It sparked with a crack keeping still as if he was feeling what was wrong with Callum.
Ibis's eyes widened with horror, but he quickly strengthened his resolve to help him. "He needs to be purified, the dark magic is in his heart and it's slowly killing him." Ibis let out a breath as he gazed at the boy. "I'm going to need to use a spell that's supposed to be used on Storm Dragons."
Ibis started tracing a shimmering rune shape in the air. As his fingertips moved, arcs of light formed, creating the glowing curves of the ancient, powerful symbol.
"But... isn't it dangerous?" Tiadrin asked cautiously.
"We'll see." Ibis's staff flashed with electricity. "Sanitatem Fulgur Percutiens." Lightning came from all directions as the lightning travelled into Callum's body. He started pulsing a jerking upwards into his hand, leaving a smoking mark on his chest as he took a deep gasping breath, but still remained unconscious as purple smoke left his mouth and dissipated into the air before sagging.
Ibis sighed and smiled at the others. "He should be fine."
"Oh, thank goodness." Tiadrin sat down next to the boy and started wiping the sweat off of his brow.
After a while, it was Sierra's turn to keep an eye on the human boy. She was glad to see that he has no scars of any sort. But she was surprised that she was joined with her dad, Tiadrin, and Lain. Ibis started checking the boy's pulse feeling his heartbeat, it was beating smoother and slightly stronger.
A knock on the door suddenly disturbed them as they all turned in surprise to see Thor standing in the doorway. "Dinner's ready." He looked at the elves wondering what was going on. "Did the boy wake?" He looked at him hopeful, they all shook their heads. Thor scowled, looking up at the ceiling. "Stars and earth, please wake this boy up." He walked away with the others following him behind. Tiadrin looked back at the boy pulling the door shut, not daring to lock the door just in case he wakes before walking down towards the dining area for dinner.
After dinner, Sierra returned to the room and started keeping a sharp eye on the sleeping boy. She fell into a deep, dreamless sleep on the chair she was sitting on and a blanket draped over her.
But Sierra swiftly woke up when she heard the boy started waking up. She turned to look at him as he woke up and get a better look at him.
The slim, fair-skinned boy has messy dark brown hair and warm green eyes. He was wearing some healing clothes.
The boy groaned as he sat up and rubbed his hand. "What happened?" His eyes soon settled onto Sierra and widened in surprise. "Who? What are you?"
"I'm Sierra." She smiled at the human boy warmly. "And I'm a Sky Flenimu." She lifted her hand and without a word, lightning danced across the palm of her hand. But it disappeared as quickly as it came. "What's your name mate?"
"I'm Callum." The boy gritted his teeth in determination as he tried to stand up from the bed. "What happened?"
Sierra wasn't sure how to tell him as he gotten dressed in his cleaned clothes in the next room. "From what I've learned, you've managed to save King Avizandum's life from a cursed staff that was thrown by the king and his dark mage friend."
Callum sighed, a look of relief and sadness went over his expression. "I'm glad I've managed to save the Dragon King in the nick of time."
"Come on." Sierra let him place a hand on her right shoulder and gave him a gentle smile. "I'm sure King Avizandum would be interested in you."
Callum may have mixed feelings regarding the Dragon King, but he understands he's just doing his duty as king and he doesn't deserve to die before the hatching day of his son. "Take me to the Dragon King." Sierra smiled at him warmly and the two of them walked out of the room.
