Perfect Little Flower

Chapter 9

I was taken aback by what he meant but I never pushed.
"How about you?" I hear him ask.
"Hmm?"
"How would you win that race if you're there?"
I look at him and smiled, "I'll race fast and make sure to create a gap between Monster and me. I'll have someone handle their tanker or any of their members. Ensure that no ones going to follow me"
He nodded, "I see"
"Would you like to race with me sometime?"
He frowned, "Sure"
I grinned, "I'm a pro, so you better practice hard"
He closed the gap between us and now were standing shoulder to shoulder, then he grabbed my hands and holding it between us, "Pro or not, I will always let you win"
"And now you're the one saying things like that" I smiled and tightened my grip on his hands and watched the race with less anxiety for the team.
"That guy from team monster, Gyuchan Gong. I like his style. I'd like to try racing against him"
My head immediately snapped in his direction, "You're kidding"
His grip on my hands tightened and his eyes filled with determination. His not kidding at all.
But my response to him disappeared when the team is almost at the end of the second lap. I tensed.
"Fuck. I'm the one who's always racing, I never thought that watching it live is much more intense"
"I'd like to see you race live"
I can tell what he's doing, and it's definitely working.
"Who knows, maybe someday. I'm itching for a race as well"
I finally felt myself calm down but when I look at the screen, I see Jay drifting the downhill slope.
And then suddenly, he flew away.
"Jay!" I hear myself scream. "That bastard"
I see the emergency team rushing up to him, and then Dom finally started to sprint when I look back on the screen. He's taking up the lead but then Monster finally caught up to him.
Team Hummingbird lost.
I slumped, "I better go to them" I murmur, hopefully loud enough for him to hear.
I started to walk away but then he grabbed my chin and forced me to look up to him.
Then he pressed his lips on mine.
I can feel myself relax.
Once the kiss is over, we never say anything and then we walked away.
I stood to Jay as he was being tended by the emergency team.
Then I hear them running towards us, Shelly's scream is loud that all of us looked towards them.
"Where's Dom?" Jay asked after the medic explained his injuries.
"He says he wants to be alone" Shelly looked down.
"We should go to him..." I say and they all looked at me, "To show him that we don't blame him for what happened"
"You're right" June said.
It took us a while but we finally saw Dom sitting alone.
I let them talk, not wanting to force myself into their group. But then I hear Dom cry, and Vinny's talking about his mom.
"What's wrong with your mom?" I asked Vinny as the other guys looked at the damage on Jay's bike.
"She's sick" Vinny answered.
"Is there anyway for me to help?"
He looks down at me, his eyes soften, "What's the catch?"
I tilted my head, "What catch? There's no catch. I'm just trying to help" then I stood closer and fished out my phone, "Put your bank account here and I'll send you the money"
Vinny shook his head, "No. There should be a catch. I'm not taking it for free"
"Fine" I huffed. "The catch is you stop looking at me like I'm a criminal"
He titled his head, "That's difficult"
I chuckled and pushed him slightly with my shoulders, "Jerk" I shove my phone towards him, "Come on. Put it. If you won't I'll find your bank details myself and send money everyday, and then my task would become very ridiculous"
He started lifting his hands, then hesitated. Impatient, I took his hands and put my phone on his palm, "Come on. You're wasting my time"
Vinny scoffed and then typed his bank account details.
We all turned around to find a man sitting down and who happens to gave us a ride. He dropped us of somewhere, and he gave the team encouragement before driving away.
"I'm heading home first. You did good today" Dom said, waving us goodbye.
"See you later" Minu yelled but Dom ignored it, singing another one bites the dust.
"He must really be in shock" June says.
I see Jay and Shelly walking ahead, "Hey. You don't live in that direction. Where are you going?" Vinny asked.
Shelly flipped her hair, "To you place. Weren't we all going to your place?"
Vinny shivered, "What? Why would you go to my place?"
Shelly looks so unbothered saying she also wants to shower which angered Vinny more. I silently walk away, heading home.
Then suddenly someone grabbed my shoulders, "Where are you going?"
Vinny still looks upset but his eyes soften when he looks at me.
"Home"
He sighed and looked at his back where the rest of the group is already walking to his home, then he wrapped his arms around my shoulders,
"come on before they trash my place"
I can feel myself smiling, a warmth spreading inside my heart that I've never felt before.
