"Marinette! Your alarm has been going off for 15 minutes! You're going to be late for your first day back at school!"
"Got it, mom," Marinette groaned in reply. She was not prepared for school this year, especially with Chloe Bourgeois. These past few years were just awful.

"Coming," she said as she walked downstairs, greeting her mom in the kitchen. "I bet you anything Chloe will be in my class again," Marinette sat down and prepared her food at the table.
"Four years in a row?" Her mom replied. "Is that possible?"
"Definitely," she sighed. "Lucky me!"
"Don't say that, it's the start of a new year! I'm sure everything will be just fine." Sabine smiled.

Marinette nodded and set the container in her hands back on the table, maybe a little too roughly, causing an orange to slip out the bowl. Rolling across the table, balancing over the butter knife like a see-saw, bumping into another bowl along with a carton, causing a spillage on the ground. Looping around and knocking over an open packet of yogurt, the orange finally lay at rest and Marinette groaned over her next act of clumsiness. Her mother laughed and helped clean up the mess.

Finally ready for school, Marinette went downstairs. Her mother was helping with putting supplies in her backpack while her dad handed her macaroons for her classmates.

"Dad! These are so awesome!" Marinette said excited.
"Glad you like them," Tom replied.
"Thank you, Dad," she said, grabbing the box that contained the macaroons, "my class will love them! You're the best," she smiled up at him.
"We're the best," he corrected, "thanks to your amazing designs," Tom pulled out a notebook with the Tom and Sabine design for their bakery.

Marinette jumped up to hug him, but released the box. Tom caught it with his foot and lifted it up in the air again and grabbed it, quickly tossing it back to Marinette.
"Thanks," she laughed. Yet another act of clumsiness. She grabbed her backpack and kissed her parents goodbye and headed out the door. "See you tonight!"

Marinette was in a rush, despite the school being only a couple yards away. Still, she ran, and almost went out into the street where cars were still passing by. Luckily, she caught herself as she lost balance for a moment.
Taking a deep breath, she then noticed an old man trying to cross the street. And a car was about to hit him!
With barely any thinking, she went out onto the road and grabbed the old man and dragged him out of there. Sadly though, she lost balance and tripped. Some of the macaroons didn't survive the fall.
I can't be clumsy for one minute! She grew frustrated for a brief moment.
"Thank you, miss!" The old man was grateful. "Oh, what a disaster," he added, feeling bad.
"Don't worry, I'm no stranger to disasters," Marinette reassured as she got back up. "Besides, there's still a few left!"
The man got a macaroon that was still in the box and took a bite. "Mm, delicious!" He smiled.

The school bell rang from a distance.
"Oh no I'm gonna be late!" Marinette realized. "Uh, have a nice day sir!" she quickly bowed and then dashed to school.

The old man chuckled and looked at the small, round box in his hands. "Thank you very much, young lady," then walked into the Dupain-Cheng Bakery.

Marinette ran straight into the classroom and nearly fell over herself, again. She went to have a seat at her usual place in the second row.
Suddenly, a hand slammed against the table. "Marinette Dupain-Cheng," Chloe's voice sang.
"Ugh, here we go again," Marinette mumbled, then looked down at the table, accepting her fate as Chloe rambled on.
"That's MY seat."
"But Chloe, this has always been my seat," she looked up at her, barely defending herself.
"Not anymore," Sabrina chimed in from the left, "New school, new year, new seats."
"So why don't you just go and sit beside that new girl over there," Chloe pointed to someone sitting at the front row on the other side. The new girl looked back with disgust.

"But—"
"Listen," Chloe interrupted, "Adrien is arriving today, and since this is going to be HIS seat, THIS is going to be MY seat! Get it?"
Do I know him? I've never heard of an Adrien before, but maybe I do know him. Do I? The question exploded into a million thoughts.
"Who's Adrien?" She asked, confused. Both Chloe and Sabrina burst out laughing. Now she was really confused. Was she supposed to know this Adrien?

"Can you believe she doesn't know who Adrien is?" Chloe commented. "What rock have you been living under?"
"He's only a famous model," Sabrina added.
"And I am his best friend," Chloe added too, "He adores me! Ugh, go on! Move!" She looked back at Marinette who was still sitting down in the supposed "wrong seat."

"Hey, who elected you queen of seats?" The new girl came over.
"Ooooooh! Look Sabrina," said Chloe, "We've got a little do-gooder in our class this year. What are you gonna do, super newbie? Shoot beams at me with your glasses?" She smirked.
"Wouldn't you like to know," the new girl shot back with a lower tone and Chloe scoffed. "Come on," she said to Marinette as she grabbed her wrist and directed her to the other side.

Marinette grabbed her stuff and followed, although she didn't have much choice, considering that the new girl was practically dragging her across the room.
It caught her off balance as she went down the small steps and made her fall again. She could just barely hear Chloe laughing.
"Oh, sorry sorry sorry!" She sighed, grabbing whatever macaroons she had left from the fall.
"Alright! Has everyone found a seat?" Mrs. Bustier asked. Marinette looked at the singular macaroon she had left in the box.
Can't believe I lost that many macaroons in under five minutes, she thought about her clumsiness. At least one of them survived, right?

"Chillax girl, no biggie!" The new girl reassured.
"I so wish I could handle Chloe the way you do," Marinette said.
"You mean the way Majestia does it," she pulled out her phone and showed a picture of a superhero with her name in large font above. "She says all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing." Pointing to Chloe, she continued on saying, "While that girl over there is evil, and we are the good people. We can't let her get away with it!"
"Well, that's easier said than done," Marinette replied. "She likes to make my life miserable," her voice lowered to a whisper.
"That's cause you let her, girl! You just need more confidence, uh..." she paused.

Marinette took the last macaroon and split it in half. She offered one half to the new girl. "Marinette," she smiled.
"Alya," she smiled back, taking the macaroon half.
They both ate their macaroon halves and sighed from the lovely taste it left in their mouths. The sweet, tender flavor melting on the tongue.

"For those of you who don't yet know me, I'm Mrs. Bustier," the teacher went on, "I'll be your teacher this year."

A car zoomed by as he got to the school grounds. He instantly knew who it was. His bodyguard and Nathalie.

As he got up a couple steps, Nathalie called out to him.
"Adrien, please reconsider. You know what your father wants!" She pleaded.
"But this is what I want to do!" He said, knowing his father wouldn't approve of it like always. He just wanted a little freedom. Was it really too much to ask to go to school and make friends?
When he headed for the entrance again, he heard someone groan in pain. An old man. He seemed to have lost balance and fell, losing reach of his cane.

I have to help him! His mind screamed.
Adrien ran over, gave the man his cane and helped him back up.
"Thank you, young man," the man said happily.
Adrien smiled, but looking back, he frowned again.

Nathalie and his bodyguard looked at him with disapproval. Adrien sighed and went back to them.
"I just want to go to school like everybody else," he started, "What's so wrong with that? Please don't tell my father about all this," Adrien finished and walked back to the car with them.

The old man smiled and walked away whistling, without using his cane.
