Raven was the leader. In control until Cane returned, but he hadn't been back to the clan for over fifteen years now. This had it's perks, like being able to tell scum such as Axel whats what without them being able to say anything. It also had it's problems. One of them being having to organise the royal masquerade.

The Royal masquerade was a large ball, held once every fifty years to bring the three large clans together. Every vampire belonged to a clan, but only the high borns lived in the clan manor houses. The party was attended by all the high borns that could attend. This year, it was the shadow clans turn to host, and that resulted in a lot of work on Ravens part.

The ball was tonight so preparation was in full spring. Vampires rushed around setting up the large ballroom, showing off as many of its magnificent aspects it possibly could. Large crystal chandeliers swung slowly back and forth holding flickering candles.Huge Pillers held the vast space from falling down. The marble floor glimmered and shined due to the polssish it had earlier recieved.

Raven watched the procedings closely. Food was brought in on silver platers and left on the tables that surrounded. In the kitchen, the best chefs money could buy franticaly prepared their famous dishes. Champaign glasses were filled with a vampires primary substance. Blood. She grabbed a glass as she walled passed and tiped the liquid down her throat.

Guests would start arriving withing the next few hours and everything was running smoothly.

Raven walked to her room and was about to get changed when she was interupted. A knock on her door sounded.

"Come in" she shouted. One of the high born vampires, she believed her name was Kali but wasnt quite sure, stepped sheepishly in.

"Axel said he needs to talk to you." Kali left without waiting for a reply.

"What does that asshole want now" Raven grumbled into an empty room

Storming out her room she went to the place she already knew Axel would be. The bar. When she saw him she scowled.

"Hello their my dear betrothed." She despised him even more when he said stuff like that. The two were engaged, which was originallyher fathers idea. She had been managing to put it off for the last three years but now her father had set a date. The two were getting wed in just under a month, and she was dredding it.

"Oh fuck off Asshole" she cursed at him.

"Nice to see you too" he smiled smugly.

"Cut to the chase, what do you want" she said aggressively.

"Alright alright, someone's got a stick up their arse. Well, I have heard that the venom clan are bringing a guest with them. A very... special guest." He winked at the last bit.

"How do you mean special?" She asked, curious.

"Well, rumor says it, she's the clan leaders child, but she's not like your usual high born. She isn't a vampire..." he trailed off towards the end.

"Well what is she then" she demanded

"She's a human, they have to keep her hidden from the rest of the vampires because... well you know why."

---

Ravens head was still swirling slightly, but guests would be arriving within the hour. She rushed to her room and got changed.

Her outfit was a dark purple dress. It was tight and with a tasteful ammount of silver diamante at the top, showing off her chest perfectly. At her hips the dress billowed out in the same purple colour as the top. The skirt was floor length and was held uo by netting. On her face she put a feathery owl mask, held on with a ribbon. Her hair was perfectly straight and black as always, contrasting with her incredibly pale skin.

She walked down the grand staircase and to the door. She was just in time to greet the first guest.

One hour later, the ball was in full swing. Music played in the background and vampire couples danced gracefully in circling patterns around the dance floor. Others stood at the sides eating the food delicately. People sipped at their glasses and everyone was dressed in their finest clothes. An array of masks littered the ballroom, each doing the job of hiding the face of the person wearing it.

Their was only one more set of guests expected to show up. The leader of the venom clan and their company. The rest of the venom clan was here but they were nowhere to be seen.

Just then, their was a knock on the door. Raven rushed to answer it. Their stood the highest born of the Raven clan including a very gorgeous but also, very human, girl. Raven would be able to smell that sweet sent from a mile away.

"Good evening Raven. Cane still not returned?" Lady Venom, the leader of their clan enquired.

"Erhh... no" Raven stuttered, Cursing at her lack of speech. "Oh, err.. please come in" she welcomed lady venom, her brother, his two children and the mysterious human girl into the manor. The vampires and human walked past her and straight to the ballroom.

Is she really taking that human in their Raven thought to herself? She's going to get eaten alive. She followed the group but was amazed to see everyone treat her like an average vampire. Not a human with a scent so strong Raven had to stuggle to keep her fangs in.

She needed to quench that thirst she grabbed a champagne flute of blood and walked to the opposite side of the room to the human. This mostly worked and she was left with a faint scent.

The next few hours were spent her politely dancing with other vampires, creating swirling patterns with their feet. She had stopped brieflyfor a break and a sit down when she smelt the scent enter her nose again. Ravens mouth watered with desire. She looked up and spotted the human. She was wearing a baby blue dress. It had one strap over the sholder and the silk material of the skirt fell straight down to the floor, glistening whenever she moved.

Ravens breath caught sharp in her throat. The human truly was stunning. She was stood fairly close by, her eyes wandering around the room. Raven really was curious how the room full of vampires hadn't smelled her out and devoured her.

She walked up to her, buy went unoticed until she was right infront of her face.

"Oh hi" the human said sweetly.

"Err, hi... Raven." Ravens stuttered introduction left her embarrassed. She couldn't believe how delicious that scent was.

"Aeva" she introduced herself "hey are you okay?... you look a little ill"

"Excuse me" Raven rushed away from Aeva and to her room. She took a deep breath, only to realise that Aeva had followed her.
