"Kenneth McCormick this is not the time for naps"

My eyes shot open as the sudden comment made me jump from my restless slumber. I glanced around the empty classroom rubbing the sleep from my eyes
"sorry Mr Mackey" I muttered checking the time on the clock above the teachers desk where Mr Mackey sat, his phone in one hand and a coffee in the other.
"Uhm Mr Mackey sir can we leave?" Butters asked with a slight shake in his voice. I turned to stare at the small boy sitting beside me. He seemed worried. Probably stressed about getting grounded for getting a detention. I felt a pang of regret as I remembered I was the reason for the both of us ending up in detention.

We had been walking to our class when I muttered a certain homophobic slur a tad bit to loud. Naturally this word caught PC principals attention and we had both gotten detention.

"No butters you can't leave until 4:30" sighed Mr Mackey.
"But it is 4:30 sir" I said butting into their conversation
"Oh I guess that's mkay then" the counsellor replied tapping away on his phone.
I stood up and turned to leave the classroom when I saw a dark blue figure in one of the empty chairs out of the corner of my eye. I turned towards it only to be met with an empty classroom.
"You ok Ken?" Butters asked waiting by the door to the hallway.
"Uh yeah.. thought I saw something that's all" I uttered, turning back towards the door and walking out into the hall with butters at my heels.

We were met with the cold breeze of the Colorado mountains as we exited the building. My surroundings were dusted with snow as per usual. I turned to Butters informing him that my little sister Karen was at hockey practice and I would have to wait for her so i would have to stay late. He brushed it off and waved his goodbyes to me. We usually walk home from school together so I felt guilty watching him walk down the road alone. We had grown much closer over the past three years. Since the.. uh the incident happened. I shuddered at the thought of that day and brushed it out of my head. I turned back towards the school, patiently waiting for my sister, but bright white lights rapidly approaching caught my attention. I looked towards the road where butters was and spotted a red car racing towards him.

Adrenaline rushed through my body and I jumped into a sprint realising the car was about to hit Butters.
"Butters! Turn around!" I screamed, racing towards the road. He turned around and was met with the scene of me colliding with him and throwing him across the road. I felt a sharp pain in my side and saw a blinding light as I landed on my back with a thump. Electric pain ran through my body. Tears welled up in my eyes and I tried to let out a scream but I couldn't speak. Pain pulsated through my body with every beat of my weak heart. I could hear the screams and cries of butters calling my name. This was some of the worst pain I had experienced but the pain wasn't only physical. Hearing my best friend scream and cry as I slowly died made my heart ache. I felt the warm touch of the blonde haired boy on my hands. He was sobbing quietly and telling me I was ok but I knew I wasn't. I let myself fade into the darkness. Why won't it stop
