"Lulu, you're day-dreaming again!" Ginny yells as she tosses the vegetables in the pan.
"Oh, sorry! Always something on my mind.." Luna checks on the meat.
Hermione, witnessing the scene, can't help but sigh in annoyance, thinking again why she had to call Ginny earlier.
Over the past few days, she had been alternating between crying, overthinking and stuffing her mouth with crisps, so a healthy routine actually. But after 4 days of that, she got bored. Like bored enough to go crazy. So she had called Ginny, pretending to check up on her and Harry, putting real effort not to mention the mess with Draco.
But being the witch she is, Ginny suspected something was wrong and arranged this girls' night. Even after vehemently refusing, Hermione couldn't get Ginny and Luna to give up. So here they are, cooking a gourmet meal, leaving Hermione with a stack of trashy movies.
"Choose a movie, yet?" Ginny asks from the kitchen.
"These are almost porn, did you know that?"
Seeing Ginny's smirk, she definitely knew. Even the covers make Hermione cringe, who even watches these?
Luna laughs. "We are going to cheer you up, babe."
Hermione groans, not able to act interested any longer. "How many times do I have to tell you I don't need cheering up? You both are getting on my nerves."
"Hermione," Ginny carries a huge tray full of food, "you sounded pretty pathetic on the phone. It's our responsibility as your friends to help."
Luna, always straight to the point. "And honestly I didn't think we'd see you this soon. You were pretty touchy with Draco the other day."
Ugh. Guess she can't avoid it anymore. It's not that she doesn't want to share her feelings. She has grown, she can ask for help and open to sharing her worries. But it's useless now since Draco has made his stance clear, what good could it do to discuss it further?
"Honey," Ginny prompts kindly. "We don't have to talk about anything. Tonight is a fun night to indulge in food and movies and friendship. But if you want, you can tell us what's bothering you. It need not bring a solution, it may lessen the burden."
"You are amazing." Kissing her best friend on her hair, Hermione rests her head on Ginny's shoulder. "I like him."
Ginny just hums, not acknowledging the whimper in Hermione's voice.
"You should tell him that."
"I did, sort of. He doesn't feel the same way. But he said I am the most important person in his life..I don't know what's in his head!"
Luna chuckles. "Men are confusing creatures. You should study them more."
"You know what, Lulu," Ginny takes Luna's hand, "that's actually insightful."
"I am not a psychologist." Hermione deadpans making the girls laugh.
"Gin," Hermione lies on Ginny's lap now, "Draco is a very complicated person. He's still living in his past, feels he doesn't deserve romance or a real relationship."
"How messed up is that-" Luna starts but Ginny shushes her. "Let her talk, Lulu. We can answer her once she finishes."
"I yelled at him even though he was hurting. I shouldn't have but..he makes me angry! Who cares about his past? He is mature now, he has realised his mistakes so what exactly is he waiting for? A sign from above?"
Ginny laughs quietly. "Did you tell him all this? Did you tell him his past doesn't matter to you?"
"No."
